The net.current-events hierarchy is intended to contain discussion of
current events. This newsgroup, net.current-events.general, is
presently the only group in the net.current-events.* hierarchy and may
remain so for some time. As such, any topic is fair game here provided it
might imaginably be considered a current event.
The net.current-events hierarchy is expected to be somewhat dynamic,
containing newsgroups on specific current events topics, and general
currents events discussion in n.c-u.general. Conversations about any
currents event topic are expected to begin in
net.current-events.general, and should traffic levels about any
particular topic rise to a sufficient level, the intention is that a
newsgroup specific to that subject would be created and traffic about
that topic moved there. As special purpose current events topics
newsgroups diminish in traffic, they will be rmgrouped and once again
on topic in n.c-u.general. If traffic in the general list contains
too much meta-discussion about the hierarchy, newsgroups for
announcements and configuration discussions may be created.
For the time being a fairly wide latitude in what constitutes a
current event will be allowed. If and as more traffic topical to
larger community current events might arise, such conversation might
be redirected to groups such as net.general.
