Here's a sculpting tip I got from Tipomatic.com Art Tip of the Day.

SCULPTING HANDS

Want to learn to sculpt hands better? No matter what kind of sculpture you
do, this technique will enable you to create hands in a much more productive
and efficient way. This technique is mainly aimed at sculptors who use Super
Sculpt clay. Super Sculpt is a clay that you can bake and it's really easy
to work with.

Besides the clay, you will need some wire cutters and thin wire. Most garden
and hobby stores sell thin gauge wire. You will use this wire as a skeleton
support of your fingers. Once you have the wire, you will cut five fingers;
length depends upon the size of hand you are making. Make a thin oval shape
for the basic hand. Stick the straight wires into the clay, and do not bend
the wire at this stage. Bake the clay with the wire in it. Let the clay bake
for about 15 minutes and take it out to cool. Once it's cool, you can bend
the fingers in a pose.
