Haven't you ever heard of Murphy's Law?? HJS is clearly just
another manifestation...

A corollary: traffic approaching from the rear is at its maximum density
immediately before you attempt a left turn.

Another: foul weather approaches at a speed which is directly proportional
to your distance from home.

Another: flat tires and other mechanical difficulties have a probability
of occurrence that increases as dusk approaches and/or when the mosquito
population of a given area is at its maximum.

Another: dogs attack only when you're riding uphill or into the wind. The
size of the dog is directly proportional to the grade of the hill or the
wind speed.

I noticed the dog corollary too: dogs attack only when you're riding

uphill or into the wind. The size of the dog is directly proportional
to the grade of the hill or the wind speed.

You should also add that the probability of a dog running directly in
front of the bike is directly proportional to your velocity at the time
of the attack.
