I've been reading a number of messages about the troubles short people have to
go through to find an appropriate bike, but being 7'2", I thought I might ask
what tall people ride? I have a cheap (well, it uses slightly heavier square
tube for frame and cost me $575) recumbant about 8 feet long, but the seat
slides back and forth about a foot so it can accomodate shorter (than 7 foot)
people as well.

Has anyone done any long distance riding on recumbants? I haven't, but from
the little riding I did last summer I seemed to notice it was a bear to
climb hills with, otherwise I could ride pretty much forever without any
problems with back pains, stress on the arms, etc.

I am practically a midget compared to Dave, but I've got a 38" inseam
which makes it hard to find the right bike. The Fit-Kit reccomends a 27-28"
frame (which is monstrous), but since I'm more geared toward racing, I use
a 25" frame and show lots of seatpost. This works for me. I suspect most
people can get along with smaller frames than they think.

I was reading in Eddy B.'s road racing book that Bill Walton (the
basketball player) is an avid bicyclist. I think he might even do some
racing. Anyway, although his bike is custom made, there are production
frames available for tall people. You can also use "Dyna-Drive" pedals
which allow one to ride a bike a cou[ple of centimeters smaller than
with standard pedals because they put your feet lower than the spindles.
Using longer crankarms is also helpful for taller people.

What do tall riders have against 27" frames? I'm 6'5" and feel very
comfortable on my 27" frame. Is there something I should know?
