SOUTH AFRICA - A pilot was slightly injured when a helicopter plunged to the
ground in Athlone on the Cape Flats on Friday afternoon, police reported.
Constable Dwayne Lake said pilot Marc Perkins slightly injured his right
hand when the machine crashed around 1.30pm.
Nobody else was in the helicopter, and no one else was injured in the
accident.
Lake said the helicopter was operated by Civair as a vehicle-tracker in
conjunction with Netstar.
Initial investigations indicated the helicopter had mechanical problems.
When Perkins became aware of this he tried to land, but he lost the tail
rotor and the helicopter swung around and flipped over, said Lake.
