Project continuation

Hi Daniel,

my name is Hugo and I'm from Austria. I'm an experienced, professional
(VB6/Java/.Net-)Developer and used your great project on WinXP 32-bit
for approximately 2 years.

The problem your project solved for me:

My company uses WLAN with DHCP, my home WLAN doesn't provide DHCP -
and I didn't want to switch my network adapter settings 2 times a day.

Why I chose your project:

You offered your project with GPL3 which was an important criterion,
and it was very usable!
Thank you by the way for your time you invested in Netprofiles.

Since February my company is using Windows 7 64-bit. I expected that
Windows 7 solves my WLAN settings problem, but as far as I know there
is still only one set of settings available for my WLAN network
adapter. (I hope I didn't miss some "advanced" settings of Windows 7.)

So my idea was to use your project at least until release of Windows 8
or 9 :)
BUT: Netprofiles latest version (2.1.8) doesn't run on 64-bit
environments.

It seems as if this project currently is not maintained, that is why I
have some important questions:

* Why is this project currently "dead"?
(Are there better solutions around, did you lost interest because
this project doesn't solve problems for you any longer, are you still
running WinXP, ...?)

* Would you be interested in project continuation? Would you grant
me rights to check in code, work on issues and further develop
Netprofiles?

If you are interested in project continuation, I have some more
questions:

* I'm able to build and run Netprofiles on Windows 7 64-bit. But how
can I create a new setup? I'm not very experienced in building setups,
and I couldn't find any deployment job in project's trunk. (directory .
\installer\ only holds resources)

* I couldn't find the code for MessageBoxHook.dll. Where does it
come from, with which license was it released, how can I get a 64-bit
version of it, ...?

* I only worked half an hour on Netprofiles - is there any other
information I should have if I want to maintain Netprofiles?

* Would you want to review changes or would you give me all
available rights to maintain this project?

* May I contact you (in the first few months) to get help? (Only to
complete handover of this project - e.g. if information about the
build- and deployment-process or files are missing?)

PLEASE, since there seems to be no reply fork the code and continue the project!  I as well cannot believe this basic functionality that is important for corporate use has not been added to Windows.  I an running Windows 8 and do not see that it has made it there yet either.  Would love a 64 bit version and Windows 8 support.  Unfortunately, do not have the time to work on the code myself.

I've already forked Net Profiles and added Hugo as a project owner! Unfortunately we both do not have the time to make fast progress and therefore we did not release a version yet. However, many problems of the original are already solved, for example we are compatible to Windows 8 x64. Please have a look at our fork at http://code.google.com/p/netprofilesmod/. In the hope Net Profiles mod will be useful for you, we should think about releasing the current state as a beta version as soon as possible.

Finally a first version of our fork Net Profiles mod has just been released! The main improvements are compatibility with Windows Vista and 7 (x86 and x64) and the updated support for Firefox proxy settings. Please try it and let us know what your experience is.
