The 16 days activism on Violence Against
Women begins from tomorrow the 25
November with the International Day for
the Elimination of Violence Against
Women. I urge you all to visit the AMARC

I wish to draw your attention to the programmes
from Asia Pacific that have been uploaded on the
website so far. They are:
1. Title of the program: The Danger of HIV-AIDS
Name of organization: One World South Asia
Country: India
Type of program: Magazine
Length: 17 minutes 26 seconds
Language of the program: Hindi
Summary: India is among the countries with the
highest number of persons living with HIV/AIDS in
the world today, although the overall prevalence
remains low. Some states experience a generalized
epidemic with the virus transmitted from high-risk
groups into the general population. This radio
programme brings information to the listeners about
this disease.
2. Title of the program: International Women's Day
Name of organisation: One World South Asia

Length: 2 minutes 51 seconds
Language of the program: Sinhala
Summary: International Womens day is celebrated on
8th March every year. Women did not have the freedom
to celebrate a womens day in the past. Women who
gathered to celebrate womens day were beaten by the
police and was tear gassed in 1983. But today women
have the freedom to celebrate Womens day.
This programme is produced by 'The Women and Media
Collective' in Sri Lanka as part of the
'Kadathurawen Eha' programme series.

rights

Summary: Many conventional attitudes and traditions
have created an unequal situation for women. Because
of this most women and young girls face different
forms of violence and sexual harassment. Should we
not think of constructing a just and equal society
that is free from violence and discrimination?
That is the question posed by this radio programme
produced by 'The Women and Media Collective' in
Sri Lanka as part of the 'Kadathurawen Eha'
programme series.
4. Title of the program: Empowerment of Women

Summary: Womens empowerment is a process through
which women gain greater share or control over
resources - material, human and intellectual like
knowledge, information, ideas and financial resources
like money. It also implies enhanced participation in
decision-making in home, community, society and
nation. According to the Country Report of Government
of India, Empowerment means moving from a position
of enforced powerlessness to one of power.
5. Title of the program: Safety of children
in schools

Length: 4 minutes 16 seconds
Language of the program: Hindi
Summary: Children face a threat to their safety and
security in various places including schools.
The problem is multiplied in case of the girl child.
This radio programme produced by 'Jagori' stresses
on the urgent need to address these issues and bring
about awareness and subsequent changes in this
situation.
6. Title of the program: The rapist was brought to
the martial court

When was the program broadcasted: September 2005
Summary: Indun, a teacher in Lampung, Sumatra,
Indonesia, worked for community to combat illiteracy.
Her job was a program of Gerwani -a woman association
affiliated to Communist Party. As a member of the
association, Indun actively taught in a school at a
remote place. Unfortunately, a tragedy in 1965 changed
everything. And this is Indun's story that she told
in 2001.
This storytelling is produced by Voice of Human Rights
Radio Program. Wirayanti works as producer. The script
is written by Landung Simatupang.
Interview by Yayan W. The story is narrated by
Landung Simatupang. Endah Widyastuty-Rei Project as
music director. Sound editing and mixing done by
Anie Ismawati.

Summary: The programme has been made for World AIDs Day
with the aim of creating awareness and gives information
about HIV AIDs and other sexually transmitted diseases.
The programme shares gender disaggregated data about
persons living with AIDs and the different groups
(drug users, family, children, drug users, LGBT, etc)
that are affected by the disease in Nepal.
8. Title of the program: Mahila Birudhra Himsa
(Violence Against Women)

Summary: The programme has been prepared especially
for the 25 November International Day for the
Elimination of Violence Against Women by the AMARC
WIN member women division of ECR FM. The programme
talks about domestic violence and shares light on the
different forms of it. It also enlightens the
listeners on the law which has made domestic violence
illegal in Nepal.

(Womens Rights)

Summary: The programme has been prepared especially
for the 29 November International Womens Human
Rights Defenders Day by the AMARC WIN member
women division of ECR FM. The programme creates
awareness about womens rights, demands the right to
be translated into action and states that for the
country to develop womens right should be upheld.
It throws light on the status of women in Nepal
where women constitute 51% percent of the total
population.
10. Title of the program: Stop Violence Against
Women
Name of organization: Radio Swara Tamborolangi'
Country: Indonesia
Type of program: Public Service Announcement
Length: 1 minute 2 seconds
Language of the program: English
Summary: This public service message calls for end of
violence against women. The scenario created here is
the domestic violence which results from gambling
habit of the husband.
This is an opportunity for you to raise awareness on
the issue and stop violence against women. We will
keep you updated on further uploads.
