Phonics, Language, Reading, Spelling, Writing, and Math. These are the most important subjects in second grade. We also do Science, Health, and History, but these are mostly readers with some hands-on activities and some answering questions, no tests. We use the Abeka child kit boxes and all these subjects are included. You can add activities like art and foreing language if you want.
We are using Heart of Dakota for 2nd grade. We cover: Reading, Math, Spelling, Handwriting, Science, History, Geography, Language Arts, Art, Bible, Writing (this curriculum this year is not heavy on writing, though), and a little bit of music. We do Math, Reading, Spelling, Bible, LA and History daily and the others are split up throughout the week.

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) is a standardized academic achievement test designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and is able to apply the defined knowledge and skills in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) at each tested grade, subject, and course. Every STAAR question is directly aligned to the TEKS currently in effect for the grade and subject or course being assessed.
STAAR helps to ensure that Texas students are competitive with other students both nationally and internationally. Another important function of STAAR is gauging how well schools and teachers prepare their students academically. In addition, STAAR fulfills the requirements of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, which requires that all students be assessed in specific grades and subjects throughout their academic careers.
Challenger eighth grade math teachers expand on the geometric concepts taught in previous grades as they deliver carefully crafted lessons to guide students to deeper understanding and proficiency. Students learn to define the basic elements of geometry; from these definitions come postulates, and from postulates and definitions come theorems. Eighth graders are practically grammar geniuses! They can diagram just about any sentence, no matter how complex. They understand and know how to use participial phrases, parenthetical expressions, and parallel structure, and their vocabularies are extensive.
Eighth grade history at Challenger focuses on U.S. history from Reconstruction to the present day. Students study concepts like totalitarianism, welfare state, property rights, and capitalism. They become proficient in explaining the causes and effects of events and are able to apply this understanding to their own lives.
As Challenger eighth graders study works like Fahrenheit 451 and Macbeth, they examine the use of contrast and paradox and learn the features of Shakespearean tragedy. When they graduate, they are equipped to apply literary analysis to any text or piece they encounter.
We give our eighth grade students a solid foundation in Austrian economic and free-market principles and entrepreneurship. Students participate in an extended entrepreneurship project where they have the opportunity to develop a business plan and market goods and services to fellow students.

By the eighth grade, our students have learned many skills and techniques with which they can portray ideas and concepts in various media. They have been taught to depict groupings of still life objects; to depict figures and faces of people and animals; and to use one- and two-point perspective to illustrate buildings, landscapes, and modes of transportation.
When you start a new school year, there are always questions that you must answer before you can properly begin teaching your children. Capsaicinoids from pungent red chilies (Capsicum annum and Capsicum frutescens) have received significant attention as a natural supplement for the management of obesity. However, the consumption of chili extract at physiologically relevant dosage of capsaicinoids is a challenge owing to its pungency and gastrointestinal discomforts. The present study reports the systemic absorption, safety and influence of a novel, food-grade, and sustained-release formulation of capsaicinoids-rich red chili extract using fenugreek dietary fiber (Capsifen). Twenty-four healthy overweight subjects were randomized into placebo (n = 12) and Capsifen (n = 12) groups and supplemented with 200 mg 1/day of Capsifen (4 mg capsaicinoids/day) for 28 days. Influence of Capsifen on eating behavior and appetite was followed by Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ) and Council of Nutrition Appetite Questionnaire (CNAQ), respectively. Consumption of Capsifen did not reveal any adverse events or deviations in hematology and biochemical parameters related to safety. However, a significant decrease in body weight (2.1%), w/h ratio (4%) and body mass index (BMI) (2.2%) were observed among Capsifen group when compared to placebo. The TFEQ and appetite analysis revealed a significant improvement in uncontrolled eating and reduction in appetite among Capsifen subjects. The UPLC-ESI-MS/MS analysis confirmed the absorption of capsaicinoids from CAP supplementation. The study further demonstrated the safety and tolerability of Capsifen at the investigational dosage. Thus, the significant reduction in anthropometric parameters such as body weight, w/h ratio, and BMI along with the improvement in eating behaviour as well as appetite, indicated the potential body weight management effect of Capsifen.
