If you experience a crash with a Javaapplication and if you have native or JNI libraries that are compiled with adifferent release of the compiler, then you must consider compatibility issuesbetween the runtimes. Specifically, your environment is supported only if youfollow the Microsoft guidelines when dealing with multiple runtimes. Forexample, if you allocate memory using one runtime, then you must release itusing the same runtime. Unpredictable behavior or crashes can arise if yourelease a resource using a different library than the one that allocated theresource.
Each prerequisite will automatically download and install the required .Net redistributable (x86, x64, or IA64) if the chosen version is not already present on the target system. For some early versions the MSI runtime will also be installed first, if not yet present.

Thank you for the response. I have installed all 12 of the visual c++ redistributable runtimes (from 2005 through 2022) using the all-in-one installer found here ( -c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/). I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the windows client from here ( +SQL+Anywhere+Database+Client+Download) but it does not install the executable dbeng17 or dbsrv17, and so in sql central it gives the error 08001 (executable cannot be found). I have a license key but I was not asked for it during the installation. Is there a different installer I should try to use?
The essential components in the platform are the Java language compiler, the libraries, and the runtime environment in which Java intermediate bytecode executes according to the rules laid out in the virtual machine specification.

Sun's goal was to replace the parts that remain proprietary and closed-source with alternative implementations and make the class library completely free and open source. In the meantime, a third-party project called IcedTea created a completely free and highly usable JDK by replacing encumbered code with either stubs or code from GNU Classpath. Physical fonts need to be installed in locations known to the Javaruntime environment. Sun's Java 2 Runtime Environments look in twolocations: the lib/fonts directory within the J2REitself, and the normal font location(s) defined by the host operatingsystem. If fonts with the same name exist in both locations, the onein the lib/fonts directory is used.
