This guide will cover installing ARK-4 on the PSP and general usage to cover the basics of this newer custom firmware(CFW). It is a successor to PRO and ME with additional features and being actively updated. Some quality of life features are added such as a custom launcher, file explorer, and an impressive plugin management system.
These next steps will install ARK as a temporary custom firmware meaning if you turn off your PSP you will have to launch the ARK Loader application to regain CFW functionalities. You can complete this step for the temporary CFW to try things out if you are unsure before making it permanent.
Any PSP can now use the cIPL method of making ARK-4 permanent. This is a quick additional step so if your PSP turns off you still retain custom firmware. You also have the ability to restore the PSP if it soft bricks.
Additionally, ARK-4 can be installed to the flash to run without a memory card. This is a full flash installation. It is not needed to make ARK-4 permanent. It is not required so it is not covered in this guide.
Infinity is a tool that allows users to enable persistent custom firmware on their PlayStation Portable. Supporting every model on firmwares 6.60 and 6.61, a user can install infinity and enjoy either PRO or ME custom firmware without ever having go through the process of re-enabling it after every reboot.
Once the correct EBOOT.PBP file has been copied to your PSP, you can run the application to install infinity to your device. Re-running the application after installation will allow you to select which custom firmware you want enabled. You will need to run the installer for the custom firmware before enabling it within the infinity app.
The custom firmware you put in your PSP depends on what firmware you currently have installed. To see what you have, go to "Settings System Settings System Information". I had version 6.60 (the most recent). After this, plug the PSP into your computer.
Usually you'll have to unzip the folder you've downloaded. I recommend 7-Zip. When you're done with that, find the folder with "UPDATE" in the name. To make sure you have the right one, there should only be one file in the folder named "EBOOT.PBP". Right click this folder, and select 'Copy'.

The PSP Custom Firmware 6.61-Pro-C2 (installation guide, latest version) will work on all PSP models from the original PSP to the PSP Go and even the E1000, all you need is to be running the official 6.60 or 6.61 firmware to install and use this custom firmware.
Note: on the 15/01/2015 Sony released PSP firmware 6.61, some three and a half years after the last 6.60 update. It's of no benefit to you updating to 6.61 after all this time, however the custom firmware has now been updated to support 6.61.
The specific emulator versions compatible with the Half-Byte Loader can be found listed on the official site. Emulators for OFW are meant to run on unmodified firmware, a list for that is also on the HBL forums.

Why i cant spawn any vehicles with the 1.0g version? of cheat device also when i click triangle to change the player outfit or somethin it doesnt change same with the cars i press circle and it isnt spawning and the menu even blinks pls help me. oh and when i have infinite health and armor i just instantly die and die and die until i will not disable this cheat.
Vehicle spawning cheats work a bit more complicatedly: You can set the vehicle to spawn instead of the Trashmaster and the Rhino, when you use their cheat codes. The menu will blink at most of the times, it's normal. For most of the cheats, including infinite health & armor you need to use the American version of the game. Finally, I don't know how the outfit changer works, I think I couldn't figure that out.
lol but i wanted to spawn maverick yea? and when i click the circle it doesnt spawn like the button doesnt respond or the cheat device and the outfit changer works like that cheat L1,L1,LEFT,L1,L1,RIGHT,SQUARE,TRIANGLE and for infinite health and armor its just stupid maybe i need another version of somethin like idk 1.0d but none of the links works
You can use the option to decrease the Gravity to enable higher jumps , the less gravity the higher the jump. Also you can add cheats into the text file in the /cheats/ directory as well. So if i want to add more cheats i scroll down to the load a file option at the very buttom of the default menu here we can load a text file with new list of cheats as well. In regard to spawning a vehicle, You want to be IN A ROAD or WIDE HIGHWAY when yu use the cheat if in a confined space it may be spawning down the road in the nearest OPEN ENOUGH SPACE for said vehicle to spawn. Also I have managed to run this cheat device on ps vita emulating psp through Adrenaline homebrew option for hacked ps vita consoles. I suspect this would also work for ppsspp PROVIDING that ppsspp emulator is not using a fake kernal module as i suspect it may be doing as an excuse to actually emulate proper kernal on the emulator, all that said should the emulator be updated for PROPER KERNEL MODULE USE this should in theory work fine on a 6.60 fw + based ppsspp emulation (i have tested and confirmed this does work with ps vita or pstv and enso or henkakau but iave not yet tried on the pc emulator ppsspp i will keep you posted if i find anything else noteworthy.

If you don't have the "seplugins" folder create it in the root (outside all folders) of your memory stick it should be written in small letters not capital letters, if you have the folder written in capital like this "SEPLUGINS" change it to small otherwise it wouldn't work. Then copy the "lcscheatdevice.prx" into it and create a text document called "game" also in the "seplugins" folder if you haven't already, go back to the package and click the "game.txt" and copy this line from it ms0:/seplugins/lcscheatdevice.prx 1 and paste it to the "game" text document that you created.
For VCS the process is the same but there's an extra folder called "cheats" this is an additional cheats for your Cheat Device included in the package in the link provided, just copy it in the root (outside of all folders) of your memory stick.
I don't get it. I'm on 6.61 temporary CFW on my PSP 3004 09g and even when I put the LCS-BEST.TXT file in the 'cheats' folder I get an error message saying 'LoadUserCheats malloc error! 00000000' in the top left side of the game. Also the Liberty City Stories plugin flashes a lot and the .txt file is not loaded and says it's empty even though it's not. Also when I set my wanted level to anything above 0 stars it sets them in the game but it remains at 0 in the plugin menu. How to fix this? The Vice City Stories plugin works great, just the LCS one has the above mentioned issues. @Alexvc could you help me out here please? I also tried other .txt files for LCS but it doesn't load any that I've tried. The other thing I tried is to create a 'lcs' folder inside the 'cheats' one even though it says here that LCS cheats should be in the 'cheats' folder only.
Because you're in 6.61 some features are not working properly, so you must delete your existing "cheats" folder and replace it with a new one, redownload the VCS cheat device from the link on my post and recopy that cheats folder to the root (outside of all folders) of your memory stick, check your game.txt if it look like this:
Then copy the "cheats" folder and paste it to the root directory of your memory stick do not add any cheat text files or folders on it, but before that I advise you to delete your existing cheats folder first. And also try resetting your vsh menu your cheat device is flickering because you're using the highest firmware which some features are not supported but there's nothing to worry about that, my PSP is on firmware 6.61 PRO-C2.
@Alexvc thanks! It turns out that I can't have both cheat devices enabled at the same time as plugins. If I have both enabled the Vice City Stories one cannot find the user cheats despite them being there and working if I disable the Liberty City Stories plugin. Also the Liberty City Stories plugin bugs the onscreen keyboard in this File Manager so I have to keep it disabled unless I want to play. And after I'm done playing I need to disable it again.
I just posted this issue of some player to know why we having the "malloc user cheats" error then I found out that the cheat device would still work without the "cheats" folder that causes the error and you can also remove that if you're having problems with it....
Open your file manager and extract the package you've downloaded, go to the PSP>PLUGINS and create a new folder named "cheatdevice_remastered" then go back to the file that you've extracted and copy these files:
and paste them inside the "cheatdevice_remastered" folder that you've created, and finally copy the "CDR" folder and paste it inside the "PSP" folder and you're done! Now go to your PPSSPP Emulator and start your GTA LCS/VCS and press L1+Up to open the Cheat Device.
