The ONS is developing a new area based web service that will eventually replace the Neighbourhood Statistics website and the data exchange service.  We are aiming to launch an alpha version of the site in the summer. We would like you to hear from you on what you would like from the new service and particulary your expectations around the API.

We will be posting updates on the website under the Latest News section.

Personally I think the NeSS topic view is the best bit of the ONS web presence. Whereas most of the site is based around guesswork in searches, and trying to track stuff down, the topic view gives a clear standard methodology to get to any and all local data. Please don't lose that topic based approach.
A lot of the other bits of NeSS are slightly spurious-there seem to be too many different ways to profile an area and I can't help but wonder how many of them get used. The custom map areas bit has potential, but is very outdated. It would be good to be able to upload geographies as well as drawing on site, and clearly the map needs better drag and zoom.
Don't really use the API, sorry.

Hello,

Do you have any more information about the new area based website that will replace the Neighbourhood Statistics?  I have tried the link to latest news and unfortunately it doesn't work. We are currently reviewing our websites and I would be keen to find out what your plans are?
