Note: Please be aware that the installation might fail if you are using the MAMP ports (8888, 8889) and Safari with the AdBlock extension enabled. In this case, pause the AdBlock extension in Safari for the duration of the WordPress installation.
I am getting below error message while installing MAMP on Mac. I've checked activity monitor for httpd and mysqld processes but no processes found and i've also used terminal to quit any active mysql process but nothing founf there too. Any suggestion how i can navigate the below error message.
What I had to do was rename my MAMP folder, launch the installer, and then change the name of the MAMP folder back. Then continue the installer and it updated and made a backup of the old MAMP install like it should.
I faced up the same problem (upgrading to Mamp Pro 6.6 on a Mac M1), with not processes running. As DavidH told, deleting file /Library/Application Support/appsolute/MAMP PRO/tmp/mysqld_proxy.pid has worked for me and the installation has been completed successfully.
If you're a macOS user trying to install MAMP PRO, you might encounter an issue where the installation is blocked due to insufficient system permissions. In this article, we'll discuss the steps you need to take to grant full access permissions to the necessary components in order to complete the installation process.
MAMP PRO is a popular web development tool that allows users to create and manage local web servers on their Macs. However, when attempting to install the software, some users may encounter an error message that states the installer cannot be opened due to security settings. This is a common issue that can be resolved by granting full access permissions to the following applicatoins:
In conclusion, while encountering installation issues can be frustrating, it's important to remember that these types of errors are often caused by simple configuration issues that can be resolved with a few simple steps. By granting full access permissions to the necessary components, you can quickly and easily install MAMP PRO and start using it to build and manage your local web projects.
By default, MacPorts will compile and install things to work with other MacPorts libraries, so when compiling to work with non-MacPorts libraries, you may need to move files around and tweak paths a bit.
I've been searching for a way to install Image Magick on my Mountain Lion setup (where I use MAMP Pro). I did find this article, but it isn't specific to ML. Also found a couple other similar questions here on SO but they were too specific I think. Doesn't help that I'm not great at this sort of thing. Can anyone point me to a good resource?
Of course, when switching PHP versions, it wouldn't also switch composer versions (which is necessary when switching between PHP 5 and 7.2.5+), so I have to use the OS install for one version and MAMP's for another. A little tricky, but if you don't have this problem, then the alias will be fine.
I have a macbook running macOS High Sierra(version 10.13.2) on which I would like to install MAMP. On this machine I already have installed MySql(version 5.7.19 homebrew) using brew and set up a php(version 7.1.7) web development environment on the local host. If I install MAMP now would this affect the current MySql I have on the computer now and would it affect the php environment setup on the local host in anyway? Also, would this cause any complications with the MAMP installation?
MAMP and MAMP PRO can be installed on a Windows 10 or newer operating system, on a macOS 10.12 or newer operating system if your machine has an Intel processor, or on a macOS 11+ operating system if your machine has an M1 processor. Therefore, based on the computer architecture and your operating system, download MAMP from the official website.
Choose the PHP version and click Start. You will be prompted by a Welcome page on your browser. The directory you will primarily be working with is htdocs which is basically the equivalent of a public_html folder. The htdocs folder location is in the MAMP installation directory.
Requirements problem
The following error must be resolved before you can continue the installation process:
The Drupal installer requires that you create ./sites/default/settings.php as part of the installation process, and then make it writable. If you are unsure how to grant file permissions, please consult the on-line handbook.
I think Mamp has it's own permissions setup as well, what I did was made myself the owner of files instead of the default www/mysql, it warns you not to but I do it anyway, local testing is not much security concern on a mac and mamp secures itself from prying eyes anyway.
Also with every drupal install, I modify the permissions starting from the root folder on down and give myself ownership, drupal files permissions are flakey, so by doing this, I make sure I have ownership on every single file.
I will go thru step five, then drupal starts its install.
Step 3 of the provided drupal set up is database name, dB user name, dB password.
I set up a database in myPHPadmin. I enter that info and the page just reloads.
Did you ever find an answer to this? I have been stuck on that same install page and cannot figure out a way to get past it. Created new databases, new useres, etc. - Always results in this same condition, exact same thing as you.

Wow! After days of frustration this worked. Would love to know why this is happening with MAMP and drupal. My first install was great, then I had problems and tried to reinstall....everytime i entered username and password the page just refreshed and did nothing. Now, after changing that one line, it just worked! Thanks Mistresskim.

The directory sites/default/files does not exist. An automated attempt to create this directory failed, possibly due to a permissions problem. To proceed with the installation, either create the directory and modify its permissions manually, or ensure that the installer has the permissions to create it automatically. For more information, please see INSTALL.txt or the on-line handbook.
I am using Tom Gellers install tut on Lynda.com and for some reason I can not get past the database configuration.
I am entering "drupal" as the database name
"root" for Database username
"root" for Database password
clicking save and the page continues to refresh with empty fields!?
1) did you create your database and name it? Use phpMyAdmin which you should be able to access from the MAMP setup page.
2) turn Mamp server off
3) then go to the mamp folder and specifcially htdoc/sites/all/default and find the setting.php file. Find the lines that sets the name of the database and insert your name in their. I can't remember the eact way it is configured
4) turn Mamp server back on
5) then go though what you did above. In browser,
6) do as u did before.
I got my Drupal site displayed fine on my first MAMP install, but when I logged in, I was moved to my user account page but not given any administration permissions. My hunch was that this is a cookie problem, since the domain is :8888 rather than my domain name.
On my ubuntu, I have installed all the required softwares but, I want a good UI tool to control my apache. To be specific, I change my document root too often, so I want a GUI tool to where I can just browse for desired document root, and restart the server.
MAMP is more than an installer. You can manage various aspects of your web dev environment, but probably the most commonly used is you can stand up a new site on your system with it's own domain name in seconds. It makes web development easy. So things that install Apache, PHP & MySQL only satisfy the least important aspect of what MAMP does.
So... I've installed Craft online, and I wanted to start templating my CraftCMS, but I'd like to work with a repository so I can have some kind of versioning. The easiest way to do so seemed to me to install Craft on our hosting server, download those files locally and connect to the online database using MAMP pro.I had some issues with our host (I had to whitelist my IP address), but now I can connect to the database using Sequel Pro, but when I try to access my craft CMS site through my local files I get the Craft message "service unavailable".My Mamp Pro is pointed to my public folder (2 folders in my site: public and craft, and it's pointed to this public folder with the index file in it) and I've used the same db settings as the ones I've used in Sequal Pro. Still: no succes. The only thing I've changed after downloading the site are these db setting for the host - as I had to do in Sequal Pro.Can anyone help a newbie in Craft CMS out here :-)? Thanks!
MAMP stands for Macintosh, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. MAMP is an application you can install on your Mac which allows you to have access to a local PHP server and MySQL server. Essentially, MAMP gives you all of the tools you need to run WordPress on your machine, for development and testing purposes. You can accomplish this in different ways, but the other ways aren't nearly as simple (see MacOS_X_Local_Mirror for the long, manual version of installing PHP and MySQL on your Mac).
Under "Create new database", enter in a database name such as "wordpress", and press "Create." No need to choose an option for "collation" : it will automatically be assigned by MySQL when the database tables are created, during the WordPress installation.
