Duplicate edit: no, i did that but it doesnt want to launch firefox.I am making a cortana/siri assistant thing, and I want it to lets say open a web browser when I say something. So I have done the if part, but I just need it to launch firefox.exe I have tried different things and I get an error . Here is the code. Please help! It works with opening notepad but not firefox..
Note that using os.system or subprocess.call will stop the current application until the program that is started finishes. So you might want to use subprocess.Popen instead. That will launch the external program and then continue the script.
A more complete example is my open utility I publish via github. This uses regular expressions to match file extensions to programs to open those files with. Then it uses subprocess.Popen to open those files in an appropriate program. For reference I'm adding the complete code for the current version below.
I have a problem with creating a shortcut that opens a certain program in Powershell. It is part of a small game server. Therefore the server folder needs to be able to be copied, to create another server.
After a lot of trying and a lot of blood, sweat and tears I finally found a workaround to make it happen. This is the only solution I came up with and the cmd version I am not completely happy with. Furthermore it includes a few temporary files.
Shelexec.exe is a program that I found on the web that lets me run programs from the command line. I didn't find a way to get it to work with the runas command without lots of trouble and filling in a password, so this is a good alternative.
The only problem is that this opens a second cmd window. That is not a problem, as the first will close after it is done with the last line of the bat, but for some reason the first cmd window hangs for a couple of seconds, before it quits.
So... This is a PowerShell script that creates a VB script that creates a shortcut which opens the server and then the PowerShell script opens that shortcut with shelexec like before to run it in administration mode. It isn't called a workaround for nothing :D
For easy running (without rightclicking, a shortcut is created for startServerPS.ps1, but not directly. The target is C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -Command "& '.\startServerPS.ps1'"
Whenever I run a program that is already open in another desktop it automatically switches me to that particular desktop. and it's so annoying with some programs like notepad++ that I use for many many other reasons.
When I launch any application from terminal, then the terminal gets locked until I close that application. What I want is just to use terminal for launching programs and then use the same terminal for other purpose without closing that application.
There is no way to do what you are asking without patching either bash or every application you wish to give this behavior to. However if you want to put a program running on a terminal into the background (as though you had run it with & is to switch to the terminal it is running on, press CTRL-Z and then type bg. The first thing says to suspend execution of the process and the second says to restart it in the background.

This program supports Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and their communities in preparing to implement innovative, effective, ambitious, comprehensive, and locally driven strategies to increase socioeconomic diversity in schools and LEAs as a means to improve the achievement of students in the lowest-performing schools. Through the Opening Doors, Expanding Opportunities program, the Department will support LEAs in two different stages of increasing socioeconomic diversity in their schools. First, this program supports an LEA, or a consortium of LEAs, to: (1) analyze existing challenges and devise potential solutions for increasing socioeconomic diversity in their schools; and (2) create a blueprint for improving academic outcomes for students in their lowest-performing schools by substantially increasing socioeconomic diversity, as referenced above, in their lowest-performing schools by the end of the 2025-2026 school year and a strategy for implementing that blueprint. Second, this program supports an LEA, or a consortium of LEAs, that have existing or established efforts to improve student outcomes by increasing socioeconomic diversity, to: (1) analyze existing challenges and devise potential solutions for further increasing socioeconomic diversity in their schools; (2) publish a blueprint for building on these existing efforts to improve academic outcomes for students in their lowest-performing schools by substantially increasing and maintaining socioeconomic diversity in their lowest-performing schools by the end of the 2025-2026 school year; and (3) execute one or more Pre-Implementation Activities that will contribute to the possible full implementation of the blueprint after the grant period.

Restaurants that applied to the temporary program acknowledged that they understood and agreed to all applicable terms and conditions and all applicable laws and guidance. If an establishment is not compliant, the City may revoke or suspend its authorization at any time during the program period and may remove any roadway or sidewalk dining setup.
NYC DOT may immediately revise, terminate, or suspend, for a period of time and without prior notice, the outdoor dining authorization based on valid complaints, lack of ADA access, need for repairs, lack of compliance with Open Restaurants regulations, or for any other reason.
NYC DOT teams conduct inspections and respond to complaints. We work with restaurants to improve their setups with the goal of bringing businesses into compliance whenever possible. Restaurants not in compliance will be issued notices to correct and, if still not in compliance, will be subject to penalties or removal.
All roadway seating must be used and occupied within 30 days of authorization. If roadway seating is not used and occupied for any 30-day period, any property within such roadway space may be deemed abandoned and the restaurant must have it removed. The City may remove the abandoned property after providing sufficient notice. Any restaurant can reapply to the program at any time after removal.
NYC will rely on each establishment's compliance with all of these terms and conditions and all applicable guidance. If you want to report an issue, concern or violation about an Open Restaurant, please contact NYC311.
