I usually start by rubbing minced garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper over the chicken breasts and leaving them to marinate for 15-20 minutes. This helps add more flavor to the breasts and the lemon juice tenderizes them slightly.
Once the chicken is cooked, you use the same pan to make the sauce. Add a little more butter, cook some flour till light golden in colour and whisk in the milk and thyme for a simple flavorful sauce that coats the chicken and gives this recipe its creaminess.
Tried this recipe for dinner and absolutely loved it! So delicious and so easy to make. My family loves strong tastes so I put in extra garlic, seasonings, and lemon juice. I also used cornstarch in place of the flour due to allergies. Came out perfectly. My picky little sister licked the whole plate clean! Thank you for this!!
Thanks! I love this recipe. Instead of cooking the chicken on a pan, I just stuck it in the oven for 20-25 mins. For those who love the creamy & sour combos, try adding some lemon/lime juice into the sauce. Adds a nice surprise.
Easy recipes like this creamy Tuscan chicken, bruschetta chicken, honey mustard chicken and green beans, or this brown butter sage chicken skillet hit the spot when you need to liven up basic chicken breasts!
This dish is 100% worthy of casual entertaining, and you can make it look gorgeous just by putting a few extra sprigs of fresh thyme around the skillet and topping everything with a few charred lemon slices.
You can char lemon slices in the same skillet before you start the chicken, or in a separate skillet while you make the chicken/sauce. Either way, just cut thin slices, brush or spray them lightly with olive oil, and put in a skillet over medium-high heat. Check them every 2-3 minutes, and flip when the underside starts to have small blackened spots. See!? Gorgeous and easy!
Lemon thyme chicken goes beautifully with a simple salad, roasted asparagus, or broccoli. My personal favorite meal is to pair this with an arugula salad or broccolini and a side of orzo. The lemon thyme sauce is incredible spooned over the greens and pasta, and makes the whole meal really feel fresh and flavorful for minimal effort.
Simple and delicious! I made this last year and loved it and have put it into regular rotation. Tonight I made the chicken and sauce, with thyme from my garden, was out of chicken stock so added an extra splash of wine.I did put the chicken into the pan with the sauce for just a few seconds each side. I have a lot of amazing peaches and decided to slice one, put them in the pan with the sauce for just a minute with the heat off, made a salad and it was a perfect summer night dinner.
These classic herb and lemon-seasoned chicken breasts will win over fans, especially when cooked over charcoal to give them the deepest, smokiest taste. For dark meat lovers, this recipe will also work with boneless, skinless thighs, though you might have to add a minute or so to the cooking time. Or use a combination of breasts and thighs and make everyone happy.
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat; add the minced garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute, making sure not to burn the garlic. Add the chicken broth, lemon zest, lemon juice, oregano, and thyme leaves to the pan. Pour the mixture into the baking dish. Season both sides of the chicken breasts with sea salt and freshly cracked pepper, to taste. Place the chicken in the baking dish along with the lemon wedges and the two sprigs of thyme.
I have a similar recipe. But instead of garlic, i use sliced onion. I use paprika instead of black pepper and add rosemary too. Either way, the combination of the broth, the lemon and the herbs is delicious!!!
This is one of the best chicken recipes I have EVER made. Super easy, and the leftovers are almost even better because it sits in all those delectable juices. Thank you for this! I used pre-minced garlic and all dried thyme and it was still delicious.
I tested this recipe and it taste bland to me. the lemon flavour hardly seep into the chicken. NOTE to beginner : after 25 mins, the chicken breasts are thoroughly cooked through with not much juices left and if it stay in for 5 or 10 more mins, it will be too overcooked.
Hello, I am new to the cooking world, so I have a question that may seem basic to many of you! I made the recipe this past week and my husband was happy with how it turned out! However, I did not do anything to the chicken while it was cooking. What do you recommend to use for basting? Thanks for the help!
I love any recipe you can make in a slow cooker, but a good main dish that can be made in the crock pot is as good as hitting the lottery. Whole chicken in the slow cooker is easily one of my favorite main dishes to serve on busy nights when my time in the kitchen is especially crunched.
The onion and the lemon in the recipe provided the chicken with all the moisture it needs (chicken itself has quite a bit of liquid too). You could add a cup of broth or stock to the slow cooker if you are feeling nervous, but not too much or the wonderful flavor of the chicken will all go into the broth instead of staying put in the meat!
Often in cooking, a recipe will call for a sprig of thyme. Thyme is made up of loads of little leaves on each stem and a sprig refers to one of those stems. If a recipe calls for a sprig of thyme, it normally means to leave it intact.
Both cream and parmesan make this sauce silky and super creamy while the lemon gives it a great tang. Perfect for smothering the succulent chicken breasts. Parmesan also adds a great umami flavour and pairs perfectly with the fresh thyme.
Hello,
I plan to make this gorgeous-looking recipe tomorrow. It will be a meal for a friend who has cancer. As she cannot eat salad greens etc so what roasted or streamed vegetables would be the best served with the lemon chicken?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Angela

Loved the lemon thyme chicken! Once I read the post, I couldn't wait to try it. I marinated a big batch all day Monday and then grilled them up for dinner. It was delicious! And we all agreed we loved it best leftover, sliced and served cold the next day. Thanks for yet another great go-to recipe!
I love this chicken. I love the lemon. My husband is not a fan of the lemon but he humored me and ate it. It was delicious. In fact, I made the potato wedges and the roasted carrots. I roast all my vegetables now because of you. They taste so much better. I am going to make this for my sisters in March when I go stay with them for a couple of days. They will love it. Thank you as always! ?
This looks delicious ! I love lemon chicken and I think I just might make it this week! It looks like you have spaghetti squash in the picture too, which also looks delish! Do you know what you put in the spaghetti squash for flavor ( I see what I think is maybe parsley)?
I made this dish for Easter Sunday and it was a HUGE hit! Everyone loved it. I actually added lemon zest to the chicken while it was cooking with the broth, lemon juice and herbs. The zest gave it a nice kick. Even my mother-law complimented me on this dish! Thank you Pamela!
My kids love lemon and this recipe is so easy to make! I prepped the chicken and onions ahead of time and just quickly sauteed them together after arriving home late from their tennis lessons. Thanks!
Speaking of meal planning, if you need to make a lot of chicken in a short period of time, feel free to purchase small chicken tenderloins and cook them up in a pan or bake them using this same recipe for the marinade. I did this while on vacation and everyone ended up eating my food rather than their fried oysters and french fries!
I made the garlic lemon thyme chicken marinade . I poured it over 10 cut up rotisserie chickens, marinated it overnight, heated them up, and served it at my oldest grandsons 18th birthday/graduation party. It was a huge success. Everyone raved about it. After 40 years of catering I can tell you the ingredients and proportions were spot on. Thanks! Looking forward to trying some more of your recipes.

They are cheap, easy to make and you can cook so many varieties. These thighs are baked in a sweet and savory sauce made with garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, thyme, and maple syrup! The sweet and savory combo is very tasty, the meat is soft and infused with a fresh lemon aroma.
Add the garlic and thyme leaves to the pan and sauté just until fragrant, about 1 minute. (If necessary, add an additional small drizzle of olive oil if most of the oil was absorbed by the chicken.) Off the heat, add the wine to the pan, scraping the bottom of the pan to loosen any browned bits. Return the pan to the heat and bring the liquid to a simmer. Stir in the chicken broth. Reduce until the sauce has thickened, about 4-5 minutes. Add the lemon juice to the pan. Add in the butter and whisk until completely melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately, spooning the sauce over the chicken.
This lemon chicken recipe really takes no prep, which is one of the best parts about this simple recipe. The chicken cavity is stuffed with lemon and garlic, and the skin is brushed with oil and sprinkled with dried thyme, salt and pepper.
Now that is one beautiful bird. Such a gorgeous color and I'm glad you added the veggies on the bottom. Will enrich the juices on the bottom. We love the touch of lemon with our chicken and thyme is such a great compliment to the bird. Great recipe.
This recipe for lemon thyme chicken is a one pan meal of tender chicken thighs, new potatoes and spring vegetables, all seasoned with a sweet and savory butter and roasted to perfection. The perfect quick and easy dinner option that the whole family will love!
