I think, if memory serves, car fees after the Ranger goes home, you
can basically just drive in and park anywhere that's legal. Then,
at butt-crack-o-clock, the Ranger wanders the park, looking for
people without the little "You paid!" sticker you tape inside your
window. He notes your license plate numbers and then leaves. He
doesn't disturb you.
Later in the afternoon, though, he'll do another sweep and see if
your car (as noted by the license plate he took down prevously) is
*still* unpaid. Then, I don't know; you get a stern talking to, I
guess. We've never had that problem because we're all responsible
citizens who are respectful of our national parks.
Jess seems to remember parking roughly cost $10, but that "the state
park system is doing pretty badly, so it might have gone up this
year". I poked around the California State Parks: San Simeon
website, but couldn't find anything readily enough about cost of
parking, only that they had it for both Day Use and Overnight.
Also, they ONLY TAKE CASH. This is OMG IMPORTANT as someone always
gets caught out on this fact.
I think that's all I got.
