Twilight Imperium?

Beach Party this year. My name is Andrew, and I've been told a little
about what kinds of games are run at this event.
I was wondering if anyone has played, or knows about Twilight
Imperium. Its a game of galactic conquest through politics,
trade, and combat. In practice, the game winds up taking about as long
as any RPG. It can support up to 8 players, each with their own side,
on a modular board similar to Settlers (it uses hexagons of different
types). I would just bring it anyway, but the game is large,
complicated, and difficult to maneuver. I just want to get a feel for
how people might react to me bringing this game, for example if anyone
would want to play.
There are lots of small pieces, but nothing exceptionally tiny. The
game takes a lot of table space... requiring maybe a 3'x3' table space
minimum, with no holes in the tables. I could bring a slab of
cardboard to make holes in the table less of an issue.
So, when I come, should I bring Twilight Imperium?
