I just got off the phone with the State Park reservation system, and it looks like we might have a bit of a problem. Due to budget cutbacks, San Simeon State Park is not accepting reservations until mid-May. In April, it's still on first-come, first-served. I'm reluctant to leave availability of campsite space to chance. This leaves us with a couple of possibilities:

1) Choose a different campsite. The National Forest campsites in the area haven't been hit by the same budget cuts, so we could probably get reservations there. They aren't quite as conveniently located, however.
2) There have been a few mumblings from people interested in arriving a day early, on Thursday, just to relax at the campsite and actually spend some time at the beach. If at least a couple of people are willing to commit to this and could grab sites for the whole group, we'd be good to go.

Simplest would be if someone could commit to arriving on Thursday to grab sites. Is anyone willing to step up on this?

I am willing to commit to arriving Thursday. What time would you need
us to get there on Thursday to be safe?

Not being a weekend, I'm not too worried about site availability on Thursday that early in the season. So whenever's good for you should be fine.

Cool. We'll probably leave after work on Thursday, but should be up
there by 7 or 8pm at the latest.

Great.

I'll get registration set up tonight.

Does anyone think that we need to have a backup site?

Has San Simeon ever filled up while we were there? There's usually lots
of open spaces not on top of the hill.

I think it usually does end up pretty full, but not until pretty late on Friday or Saturday afternoon. I would be very surprised if you couldn't get the sites on Thursday, or at the very least snipe any openings at checkout time on Friday.
