Dear all,

I am very much agree with the postings subjected to newa script.

In this regard I would like to focus following points, let us discuss and finalize on the points

- I think the best way to make a system based on romanized system, therefore Nepalbhasha should be standardize with roman character first.

- By this we have to develop a dictionary on the base of romanized, i.e romanized, Nepalbhasha, English and vise a versa.

- Once romanized system is finalized I think it would not be difficult to convert devnagari, prachalit lipi, ranjana lipi, and any lipi based on Nepalbhasha, only difference will be font base.

- In these all activities based on transliteration of scripts we must also take care for dtp workers for their freedom of working on fonts and script styles.

- For these all there should be Nepalbhasha romanized standardization cell accepted by all the Newa community (a difficult task). If Nepalbhasha Academy initiates on this plan it would be more respectable. At the same time we have to check for the porject cost and source for the same.

- From these in very primitive stage I would like to request all of the frens to design a program and estimate cost, then cost benefit plan. I would like to request Allen ju and Eukesh to do these activity as I have find from several discussions they have done more on this field.

Hope you people are agree with me and extending discussion and finalization on this issue, please let us have more and more discussion.

Suresh Pradhan

Ranjana lipi is very beautiful but for communication it would be good idea to choose the easier one i.e Prachalit.

For the past five years, I have had various interactions with various Guthis, groups and developers on how best to proceed towards our proposal for the standardization of the Unicode script encoding and harmonizing this with the ISO standards.  A draft proposal was made by Thapu Lipi Guthi of Lalitpur after the training I had handled organized by Lipi Guthi of Kathmandu.  There has been a lot of talk, but no action on this front.  It is frustrating and language groups are not in agreement on the proposal and 'logos and egos'  have come into play for us all Newah's to come together to agree on one proposal on our language script on both initially in Prachalit and Ranjana.
With this email, I would like to try again to have a consensus on the proposal.  I am sure the concerned people are all 'listening'  into this discussion forum.
There has been frustrations (many a times) given in this discussion forum on the inability to communicate in a universal way using computers in our language.  We need to solve this. And to solve it, we need to give a proposal that we all agree upon on the standards of our script so that all the computers are able to communicate with one another on this.
Would love to hear the feedback.

Allen Bailochan Tuladhar,

Dear Suresh Pradhan ju and pasapin,

This is Suwarn Vajracharya from Japan. I am glad that several of our pasapin have shown interest in the need of developing a unicode font for our Nepal Bhasa that help us communicate among our pasapain. Some have suggested that we must use romanized letters, others Ranjana or Prachalit. These are really great ideas.

In this regard, I am pleased to inform you all what I have so far done to create a unicode font for Prachalit Lipi.

Since I learnt Prachalit Lipi some 20 years ago while in Sri Lanka, I have been dreaming of developing a uniform (unicode in technical term) font to use among our Newah Pasapin. For this I had a number consultations with many Newah and Non-Newah pasapin at home and abroad including Padma dai, Maheswor Shrestha Bhaju, Arjun Pradhan Bhaju, many Newah senior leaders and new leaders. Finally, in 2005, I have had three responses from concerned font developers that they can develop the font for some fees ($1000-$3000). Our pasa, Allen Bailochan Tuladhar was one of them and after two years of communication, our pasapin here in Japan (NIFJ) agreed to ask Allen to develop the font at the cost he has asked for. However, he has yet to reply to our deadline at the end of March 2008.

Having failed to hear from him, we have now in the process of communicating with another developer, who has agreed to develop the Unicode font for Prachalit lipi for about $3000 that include designing and technology application etc. The work is to start this month once we have signed a MOU and complete the work at the end of December 2008. This is the International Year of Languages. Hence we have got our developer agreed to complete the work within this year. A pamphlet is being readied for the Unicode font for Prachalit with all detail of workload, period of time, people, materials and support we need and the cost.

If you would like to be a partner of this historical project, you can help us with kind and cash support.
Donation in kind: Text books, hand written or printed materials of Prachalit lipi.
Donation in cash: We are looking for one single person, who could donate $3000 for the project so that we can name the font after the donor in honour of his contribution.
If any of you would like to come forward to help, please contact us as early as possible.

Bheentunamha,

Suwarn Vajracharya
Tokyo
