AYMO will have for power out of Ayer,MA this afternoon  NS 9710, NS 9856, UP 7417. The UP was leading when it was on CP 934.When it got to Mohawk, NY they had problems with it. To bad.

It was 2:50 PM and I was waiting at the Temple Ave crossing in Ocean Park just south a few crossings from Old Orchard Beach ME today waiting to view Downeaster 686 inbound to Boston.  Sure enough gates came down for a train approaching but around the curve came the two new PAR FP Units ex Conway Scenic units pulling a single car #100 at a fast accelerating pace. Friend of mine said "Is it on fire"!.  No, I said but it looked like two Alco's vs. EMD units spewing extreme amounts of exhaust laced with a choking pungent odor for a full five minutes.

684 followed it through with a clean exhaust at 2:57, a few minutes behind.

It looks as if the Conway Scenic perhaps got the best part of the deal but have heard some other horror stories regarding 216. Only time will tell.

Someone posted a picture of #216 claiming it was with #252 in the last train through the notch with Maine Central RR but I believe #216 is an old high nose GP35 purchased by PAR from NS?

What exactly WAS the last (MEC/GRS) )train through the notch?  I had always thought it was the deadhead move of the 2-8-0 to N. Conway.

I'm also pretty sure 216 has no history with Maine Central, although it doesn't look bad in the yellow paint. It also seemed to be working fine on Tuesday when it took a 5-car train to the Notch and back solo.

Geoff Doane, usually in Halifax, but in Sunday River, ME today
