Hello All,

Two weeks to go and the RUSA approved routes are available on the website.  Myself and others will be pre-riding the route this week and next week.  There may be some slight changes but overall the routes should remain the same.

We will have a mandatory safety meeting Wed 9/23 at 7pm to discuss route changes and other potential notes.

The ride will start at 4 am on Thu 9/24.  Sunrise isn't until 6:15am so you'll be expected to have the necessary night gear (lights, vest, ankle bands).  Riders should expect abundant services on the route during daylight hours and a few staffed controls each day.  Any riders pushing through the night will have limited opportunities to resupply.

More info to come after the pre-ride!

Hi Jacob!

Are there route links split up for days 1-4? Are they reflective of the changes in the links below?

Any other adjustments pending before we start loading our GPS units and working through our cheat sheets?

Exciting times ahead!

Hi Phil and Everyone,

I'm pre-riding the event on Thursday with a few other volunteers.  There might be minor adjustments to the GPX files on Monday or Tuesday next week.

Here are the days broken up.  Please note that if you're navigating by cue sheet, you'll need the cues from the full route.  I've tried to annotate where food is abundant but there will be other options on route that I haven't shown.

Day 4 (for 1200k and 200k riders):  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/56801395

One pre-rider reported that there's a 10-15km section between the Rt 16. Dairy Bar and Wolfesboro on Day 1 that is a high traffic area with little shoulder.  There's no real alternative to get between these places without a significant route redesign. I'd ask that everyone be vigilant here, avoid pacelining on that stretch, and turn your lights on. Most of you should be through here during daylight hours and the rest of the 1200/1000 shouldn't have this issue.

I'll send another email after the pre-ride with a detailed description of the route with photos.
The weather around here has been a bit unpredictable lately.  I'd bring some warmer layers, especially for the morning, in addition to rain gear.  Temps have been as low as 50F in the morning and as high as 80F in the afternoon.

Best,

Jacob

Super helpful background. Thanks Jacob!

The Chicago crowd is eyeballing the route trying to gameplan our New England Eating Tour de Force. (Pro-tips welcome and appreciated)

Big kudos to the pre-ride crew. Excited to hear how it goes.

FYI, a bunch of us had been working on a perm series that made a large
perimeter loop of New England. The routes have all be designed but the
project fell to the backburner. Messages like this encourage us to
pick things back up.

The incomplete website is here: https://6state.ner.bike

Hi Phil,

We'll definitely share any info regarding eating!  I know at least one of the pre-riders might be planning a Tour de Soft Serve if ice cream is anyone's thing.

Best,

Jacob

I for one am not leaving Vermont without Maple Creamie in the belly, and have the Vernon Maple Creamie place on my stem sticker. But if you know a place more on route please do tell!

Not trying to blow up everyone's email inbox today but...

I'm absolutely here for the development of 'super perms' and folks promoting all the cool shit we can discover on our bikes with all the local rando knowledge to take advantage of.

And yeah, I have a mental bingo board already with all the state foods. Maple Creamee is a definite must. I don't care if it's 50 degrees and raining. It's happening.

One other thing I should've mentioned earlier, is that  there are some short stretches of gravel on the route. Especially on Day 3.  I'm running 28mm tires but others may want to opt for something wider.
