Dear Friends,

Namaskar !

I hope this mail find you well and good.

One good news is that help Age International finally confirmed Euro 22,000.- for social pension research. We have not yet signed the contract but now from the mail from Ms Bethan from Help Age London, it became more than 99% confirmation.

There are a number of queries in her mail that we need to respond soon. Reduction of sample size, revision of budget breakdown, etc are all technical things. We will do those all according to her suggestions.

The basic question is – who will lead this research? My opinion from the beginning was that there must be one established person to lead this research. I consulted with several NEPAN members during these days. Last week, I also circulated a mail to all of NEPAN members to show the interest in this project.  However, I did not get response from appropriate persons. There are some interested members but they can play only assistant role.

Several NEPAN members (Dr Binod Bhatta, Dr Hemant Ojha, Ms Bashundhara, Mr Bhola Bhattarai, Fatik Jee, etc) suggested me to approach Dr Laya Upreti (Associate Professor) from Department of Sociology, Tribhuvan University for this leading role. He has agreed in principle if we all agree to go with him. We still need to sit with him and finalise all details. We need to respond to Ms Bethan with the name of lead Researcher with his/her cv. Therefore, I would like to request you to give your feedback – agreement, disagreement, or alternative suggestions.

With regards

Nani Ram

Dear Naniram sir,

As far as I know Dr. Laya Pd Upreti, he is right person to undertake this research. He is also wellknown in qualitative research.

Dear Naniram ji
Sounds good.
As for the Laya Uprety, as long as NEPAN members are happy and know how to deal with him, he should be fine. I do not know him personally. Whoever we select, he/she should be made clear right from the beginning that he/she is not doing a "favour" to NEPAN. It is a professional job and the person is paid.

Best regards
Mahesh

Dear Naniram Jee
Thank you very much for the email and efforts you did for the selection of Lead Researcher for Social Penson Research of NEPAN. I agree with the Name (Dr. Lay Upreti) He is accepting our proposal to become the lead researcher is good to NEPAN.
BUT the process you are doing is not much satisfactory to me. We have a Ageing Sub-Commitee, We have some members who are doing their best in the ageing issues since the fist research in ageing in Nepal.  I have also suggested earlier to have a technical as well as planning team for this research work. I think We believe in Team Work and NEPAN is the forum for demostrating team spirit and participation of the concern members.
As the Coordinator of Ageing Sub-Commitee, I fully agree your propoal and  go a head for the further conformation with Dr. Lay and HAI for the further contract.
(Ali ali critical bhayo ho hola  hai sathi, it is for good and with good intention Sabaiko Kalyan ko lagi ra NEPAN ko kalyan ko lagi)
Appreciatively
Ashbin
