Is the ADA hurting people with disabilities? Would the disability
community be better off had the ADA not passed? Think of the changes
in your life if you have a disability (if you don't think of the
changes you see), would they have been made had the ADA not been
enacted?

Some people (as we've mentioned before U.S. Senate Republican
candidate from Kentucky Rand Paul) thinks businesses should be allowed
to make their own accommodations, but he's joined by people with
disabilities as well. This scenario not only includes being a consumer
but looking for employment. The unemployment rate for people with
disabilities is (estimated at) 60%.

Has the ADA impacted you negatively? Please let us know.

The ADA is the finest legislation to have occurred since Fair Housing
Act... Unfortunately for some who now enjoy its largess, the "grass
roots" cause/effect has diminished... Therefore no real passion from the
disability community itself. Advocacy is strong, but mostly on behalf of
persons with disabilities. The ADA is not the end all of consumer
rights, we need to be ever vigilant and continue to have voices heard
and acted upon. There still needs to be "fire in the belly" so to speak
by consumers and by consumers as a huge interconnected "voting block."
Power is in the hands of those who collectively voice their concerns. I
urge all with disabilities to re-begin the process of communal voicing
of needs, concerns and action on behalf of those we elect to office.
Questions always, seek answers, seek legislation that creates equality
in all sectors.

Ok off my soap box, and on to another... I find it despicable that the
U.S. Chamber of Commerce touts advertising of a Republican candidate...
Whether R or D, it is appalling that they would use business and more
especially small business membership monies to advertise a candidate who
is not of my liking or party for that matter. We, my wife and I, are
sounding the alarm to the Scranton Chamber about this and will more than
likely refuse membership. The Chambers across our great nation have
collectively through the U.S. Chamber, fought the ADA! They are not our
friend.

Some thoughts on this, and personal experience would be greatly
appreciated.

R

Do local Chambers of Commerce follow the National Chamber blindly?
(What the national says, the locals follow?)

Shouldn't the chamber support (all) business?

If a business doesn't want to comply with the ADA, then that should
automatically says they don't want people with disabilities busines.
