Neotek full.jpgRestoring a 1984 Neotek Series 1E Theater Systems console (custom config, ~20 input channels, 8 subgroup modules, preset matrix architecture).

Current status:

* PSU rails confirmed good
* Multiple input channels fully functional
* Mic pres, EQ, phantom power, subgroup routing all working
* Console is surprisingly quiet
* Subgroup SEND outputs confirmed passing audio
* Output meters responding

Issue:
Cannot get audio through:

* Phones
* Control Room outputs
* Studio outputs

Interesting behavior:

* SOLO light remains illuminated constantly
* Console appears to use Neotek’s theater “preset/output matrix” architecture rather than a traditional stereo master bus
* Documentation references “output masters for operator monitoring” and preset-to-output matrix routing

Trying to understand:

* How monitor/control room routing actually works on these Theater Systems consoles
* Whether phones/control room monitor only specific output masters/preset assignments
* Whether persistent SOLO logic could mute/divert monitor outputs

Would especially appreciate insight from anyone who worked on:

* Neotek Theater Systems
* live theater routing consoles
* early matrix/preset-based Neotek desks

I have:

* block diagram
* module layout
* current console photos

Hey is it possible the channel solo is engaged? That would explain the solo light being on. I'm not even sure this board has channel solo, but that might be it?

Best,
Matt

Hi, What makes you think this is a theater console?

The console in your photo looks like a regular production console with 8 buses plus a stereo bus.
I don't see a matrix mix interface anywhere. The 2-mix / control room module does look a bit different to what I see in my Series 1 documentation. Could you upload a close-up photo of that module? It's the right-most module, that is the width of 2 channel strips. Chances are your issues lie somewhere in that module.

Regards,
Mihran

Hello again. I found a page that documents the master module you appear to have. It is the Series 1 "Recording module". Here's a photo of the documentation.

Hi

I'm not sure if this console is THEATER console, please send a picture of the module in a side and the pcb side

Also picks of the back connectors.

You will need the schematics for the theater console if it is.

Sincerely

Mike Stoica

Thank you Mike! You've been a big help so far...

At this point the channel strips, direct outs, and sends are all confirmed working and sounding good. Remaining issues seem isolated to the master/monitor/routing side of the desk (control room path, subgroup metering, solo logic behavior, etc.).

I currently have channel strip, preamp and PSU schematics. Were there separate schematics/manual sections originally for:

  • master section
  • subgroup/buss modules
  • monitor/control room section
  • solo/mute logic

Or was all of that typically bundled together in one service manual? If so, Do you have access to these for purchase?

Thanks!

Frankie

Hi

I don't have those schematics in digital format but I can take the book to a copy place and make copies.

They are around 20 plus pages and most of them is 11x17

Cost $ 100.00 plus $ 12.00 Shipping

Sincerely

Mike Stoica
