Speaking of meter talk, I have a meter bridge issue on a Series II.

Normal operating conditions for hours, then the PSU meter light goes out
and I smell unmistakable burning. Powered down, pulled the Molex
connector for the meter bridge, replaced the relevant fuse in the power
supply, console is back up & running with no meters, all other functions
legit.

I feel like I've heard about a specific cap that's prone to die in the
meter bridge on these? Won't be able to investigate fully for a few
days, and while I figure that blown component will be real easy to spot,
any advice is appreciated. Meanwhile just trying to adjust to the
control room still kinda smelling like an electrical fire...

thanks,
E.

I call it the "green menace". These are green, 0.1uf (100n) ceramic disc caps, about the size of a dime, which are across the power supply rails. Sometimes the whole cap looks burnt, but other times it just gets dark across the bottom of the cap, between the leads. You will probably measure a short between +35v and 0v. I would recommend replacing all of them with 0.1uf/100v monolithic ceramics, X7R or COG types.
