Discover why Bruges is considered one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world while you explore its streets aboard a bus on this sightseeing tour. The most comfortable way to get to know this Belgian town!

The sightseeing bus tour starts in the central Market Square (Grote Markt). Next to the Belfry of Bruges, one of the most iconic monuments in this picturesque town, you'll find the bus stop that will take you on a journey to uncover the secrets of the city.

During this panoramic tour around Bruges, we'll admire the gothic faade of the Town Hall, ride along the banks of the mythical canals and eventually reach the famous Rozenhoedkaai, on the banks of one of the most famous canals in the city. Naturally, no trip would be complete without surrendering to the sight of the Kruisvest windmills on the green meadows to the north of the city.

Seeking recommendations for private walking tour guides or operators in Bruges! We like to start our time in a new city with activity and getting our bearings - walking tours are our family's favorite. It'll be our family of four, including two teenagers. We would prefer to do a private tour/tour guide for the afternoon.

Lori, I did a search of the forums for any previous, somewhat recent posts with guided tour recommendations and really didn't come up with anything. Maybe it's because the historic center of Bruges is reasonably compact (we've stayed there for a few days) and most folks are able to do their exploring with pre-research, a book and/or info from the local tourist info offices: they do offer several self-guided walking routes (see last link on this post).

We found Bruges to be quite an interesting place, given time to delve beyond the surface. Lots to take in if you have an interest in history. I hope you are staying a night or two? Sadly, I see that one of my favorite historic attractions - 12th century Sint-Janshospitaal - is largely closed for renovation until sometime this fall but no matter, there's plenty else to explore!

Hey Lori, when I was in Bruges with my family we did an excellent free tour with Ambassadors. They are from Bruges and focus much more on stories than most tour guides which made it a lot more interesting for our teenagers as well. Here's the link to the tour -walking-tour-bruges

Bruges, also known as the Venice of the North, is a picturesque city in northwestern Belgium, in the province of West Flanders. The city is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, winding canals, and cobblestone streets that exude a charming and romantic atmosphere.

Bruges is also famous for its lace, chocolate, and beer. The city houses numerous museums, such as the Groeninge Museum with its collection of Flemish Primitives, and the Frietmuseum, dedicated to Belgian fries. In addition, there are many stores and boutiques selling artisan products.

Our chauffeur will pick you up from your hotel in Amsterdam at 7:00 am for a trip to the beautiful city of Bruges (Brugge) in Belgium. This well-preserved medieval city is famous for its canals, stunning architecture, and chocolate shops. You can spend the day exploring the picturesque streets, admiring the historic buildings, and indulging in delicious Belgian cuisine.

During your visit to Bruges, you can enjoy a variety of activities, including taking a canal tour, visiting museums such as the Groeningemuseum, or climbing the Belfry Tower for panoramic views of the city. The excursions offered have too much walking - not just walking while touring but a 20-minute walk back to the bus after the tour. There is another option of being dropped off, but this excursion is for people who have already been to Bruge (according to the write-up). Has anyone who has not been to Bruge before taken this excursion? I am thinking we could do only the amount of walking we are comfortable with, but I am concerned that without a previous visit, this excursion might be a waste of time. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

We just returned from an extended trip to Europe (2 months) which included a few days that we spent in a very nice B&B in Bruges. It just so happens that on one of the two cruises we did as part of this trip we also had a day in Zebrugge. Bruges is a delightful city that is made for walking. In fact, if you take an excursion you will still need to leave your bus and walk (the only way to really enjoy this city). As to getting from port to Bruges you can certainly pay the cruise line $58 (or whatever they charge) for bus transportation. Or, as on our cruise, you could simply take the free shuttle bus from the port to the train station in Blankenberge where you can grab the train to Bruges for about 8 Euros (round trip). I should add that the city of Blankenberge is a decent sea shore tourist city. Most cruisers only use Blankenberge for the train station, but if you walk from the train station towards the sea you will find a lively shore resort with plenty of shops, restaurants, and a huge beach.

My family did the Bruges Sightseeing half day tour with Royal Caribbean. I was a little concerned with the walking tour because we had my parents with us on this tour. They are in their early 70's but my dad tires easily. We began with the bus tour. They split the bus group into 2 groups. Half did the canal tour first and the other group began with the walking tour. We did the walking tour first. There is quite a bit of walking but you do have frequent stops where the guide points out different things. We did the canal ride next. You have some time at the end for shopping. Overall, I am glad we did this tour. My parents had no problem with the pace of this tour. It was a very enjoyable day.

Cruisetraveler2, I found your answer about the walking to be very helpful. When you say there are frequent stops where the guide points out different things, were you able to sit down at these points? Thank you SO much. Jan

Jan, I do not remember seeing a lot of places to sit. There was one stop that did have several benches that we took advantage of. Mainly you would stop and they would point out different points of interest. The stops allowed my dad to catch his breath for a few minutes. I was apprehensive about the walking tour but he actually did quite well. Our guide was good and did not set a very fast pace. As soon as we finished the walking tour we went straight to the canal boat which was probably 30 minutes. You had free time at the end to shop. The meeting place at the end of the tour did have outdoor cafes with tables and chairs. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.:)
