Z5680M - dark grid

Hi there, i just bought one Z5680M tube pretty cheap and now im waiting for it to arrive. The thing is that it has dark corners on the anode grid. So im bit worried that it might not function. Does anybody know what could be the problem, and if it affects the tubes function? (see the picture)

It appears to have a few hours on it, although it should be an easy task to remove any oxide buildup (cathode poisoning) from the digits.
They're scarce these days, so handle with care :)

Yea i know you can fix cathode poisoning quite easily, but whats with that dark anode?

I have several with similar darkening, and they are just fine. But, like Jeff says, it most likely has a few hours on it. It may be fine and then again, it may not! No way to tell until you get your hands on it. I can tell you this, most of the 5680's I have that have this sort of darkening did require some "rejuvenation" on my part.

On my next trip to LA, I'm going to pack up the set of tubes I have with cathode poisoning and want to come by so you can show me how to best recondition them. I have somewhere between six and a dozen Z568 or Z5680 tubes which need some love from cathode poisoning.

Ok, so the tube just arrived, everything seems just fine, but i havent got the time to fire it yet. The thing is i have noticed a really strange thing - there is an extra cathode wich is upside down number eight in the middle, in between two and five. It looks like its not connected to any pin. Does anybody know why its there?my guess would be it acts like a spacer, but why?

Oh nevermind, there is a connection at the top with the anode grid!

Yes, it is a usual auxiliary anode construction, you find it in a lot of +- tubes as well.
