Thanks for finding at least some data, it's better than nothing.

I see no such large discrepancies there. The data sheet states 40mA at
1.2V for the filament. The 4mA is for cathode current and not the
current that keeps it hot.
Nevertheless, the inferior design (resembling something a happy
beginner comes up with by empirical means) in the schematic and the
bad notation with capital M for milli does add up to a feeling of lack
of confidence. Are they stating nominal voltage 1.2V for the filament,
or is it a worst case for measuring luminosity? Is the nominal voltage
maybe 1.5V?
