Those Burroughs are one of my favorites!  I have a 10+ year old clock running those tubes

This seller has been fishing to sell these tubes for months.  He posted these plus 20 others on Facebook a few months ago.  I tried to make a private deal with him for over 2 months and wouldn't put a price on them.  Avoided the question every time we corresponded.  Also made excuses about having a friend test them before he would sell.  Anyhow, he reached back to me when they were "allegedly" tested and said make an offer.  I made an offer to purchase all 25 (which he found my price insulting, BTW) and proceeded to call me all kinds of names, accusations etc. (which I won't post here) and was downright vicious.  Maybe my offer was on the low side but you got to start negotiating at some point especially when he wouldn't give me a starting point.  He harassed me privately on Facebook until I had to block him.

Needless to say, if anyone is considering purchasing these, I'd be cautious.  Additionally, there are no pictures of any of these tubes lit in our private correspondence or on the ebay listing.

At $250/tube plus shipping overpriced in my book.  If anyone is considering and would like additional info, I'd be happy to converse privately and off the board.

Caveat Emptor!

Wow, thanks for sharing your experience. Would suck to pay big bucks just to get stiffed by some guy who resorts to name calling.

Kevin,

You have no idea.  All because he was "insulted" by my initial low offer.  Seriously, he harassed me on facebook making pretty bold accusations.  Good thing I have a thick skin.

The only saving grace here is that the seller has stated  "ALL have been tested in very good working order"  and therefore the buyer will have recourse on the seller through Ebay if otherwise. But I certainly do understand your concerns.   Good luck to all who may bid on these.   Ira.

Mr. Farny has set my upper price for large tubes, at 145 USD. It's as large as any obtainable nixie I've ever seen and is brand new. At that price, I'm certainly willing to compromise on the overall shape/pinout.

So, if Dalibor makes a replacement for the Rodan CD47, will he name it Godzilla ?

Forgot to mention.  Seller deleted negative feedback.  When I checked the listing this morning, there was negative feedback posted by someone.  It's since been deleted.

Potential buyers seriously proceed with caution buying from this seller.

I don't understand that. My understanding is that once feedback is left by the buyer, I know for a fact, from talking with an Ebay rep, that the BUYER can NOT remove it. I believe that the same is also true for the seller. HOWEVER it is my understanding that the current feedback system is on a rolling 12 month system, so that feedback that is older than 12 months is automatically deleted. Is that what happened here??  If someone knows something different, please let us all know.   Ira.

If the seller was serious, this would be auction format with a minimum bid. I love watching these during the last few seconds just to see how crazy people get with their bids.
Remember the pair of NIMO tubes that went for over 600 USD ?

I had a situation where the winner never paid and never received the item then a day later he left negative feed back that I misrepresented it and that it was broken ( how would he know?)   Anyway I contacted eBay and asked if they would remove the false malicious feed back in view of him not paying etc.  They replied that they only do it if there is a court order.  So it stuck but a few weeks later a lot of his mean spurious feed back caused eBay to delist him but my negative feed back remained for a year.

There are many options to have negative feedback removed on eBay, just Google and read some expertise help on how to do it or check eBay policies here: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/leaving-feedback-buyers/disputing-feedback-received?id=4102 for an understanding that eBay is always on the seller side since the sellers are what brings revenue to eBay, not the buyers!

I’ve seen it done several times by sellers and I always let friends know which sellers behave poorly not taking responsibility or in some cases outright lying.

I see that all of his sales are listed as "private" on the feedback page. Does that have anything to do with all this?

Price reduction!!  It's now 1249.99   <grin>

Make-offer is now enabled, but my offer of $200 was immediately rejected, meaning the seller has set a higher threshold and did not even consider mine.

To be fair, even for used tubes $200 for a set of 5 is a tad optimistic ;-)

Absolutely! Since I'm not dead-set on building an 8091-based clock, I'm only bidding opportunistically.
If I got them, they would go into a box until I have time to build something a few years from now.

It's too easy to get caught-up in nixie-tube bidding based on how much you might want a particular tube (I'm an addict, and I want them....what can I say ???), so I've cut-out the emotional part of how I value a tube, and base my bid on cost for a given size relative to other available tubes. No surprise, I lose a lot of auctions. But at least my garage doesn't look like an episode of 'Extreme Hoarders' on TV.

The 1.375" (35mm)  character-height of a b8091 is less than a IN-18 (40mm), and these b8091 tubes have an undocumented history.
They are substantially smaller than the RZ568m, which is brand-new, has a 10-year warranty, and in my opinion has better construction.

I guess I just don't understand why people get so upset. Let him put them up for $1,000. Or $10,000. Who cares? They are his, and he can set the price. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy them :)

The price is his to set at whatever level he wants but his way of treating people is an altogether different thing. He hopes to get lucky when he adds up all the information he has gathered on these quite rare Nixies and that’s ok with me, there will probably be people with enough money ti buy thembut they will also know to wait a while on a better price, but my personal experience and what I’ve read on how he treated other people here means that I won’t buy anything from him with my economy in mind - however if I win the lottery I might change my mind! :)

From an old Fairchild DVM I salvaged a nice display with five (National
Electronics) NL-848 and a 843 Nixie tubes.
Even though I guess they are pretty much "standard", they are all sitting in
sockets on a PCB, simplifying constructions of whatever they will be used
for.
And that's my problem, what will I use them for??

I have a pre-programmed PIC and some driver ICs. Ideas?

On the plus side, when people over speculate on items it makes it a good opportunity to sell your own, if you have any to sell. Makes them look much cheaper :-)

Having something for sale for a long time at a very high price makes it harder to shift for a normal price later on, is my usual experience. I tend to just plump for listing at about 25% more than I realisticly would expect something to sell for and enable best offer and see what happens.

Money for old rope in those units though, he should for sure do it as an auction, especially if he has 5 of the things?

Jens,

I don't personally care what he prices them at, I'm all for capitalism. (my issue with the seller was how he verbally attacked me when I made him an offer privately for all 25pcs before he put the listing on ebay)  It was really strange.  I just wanted to inform potential buyers this guy is volatile and was playing games.

Paul the guy the seller mentioned in the post mentioned to me a few months ago that a friend of his had a bunch of these tubes and that he would be testing them for him.  I had almost forgotten about it until this post came up on the bay.  The other three tubes I got this year were from two other auctions and actually I think one cost more than this.  How often do you see B-8091's come up for sale?  In some respects they're priceless because you just can't really buy them often.  I draw the line at some point though... I want this tube too but it's just a bridge too far:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nixie-RODAN-CD27-tube-OKAYA-ELECT-CD-27-big-numeric-indicator-tube/113731162944

Not for 1200$ for one tube... maybe half that and even then it's a lot to swallow for one tube.  Actually I think the CD27 is rarer than the CD47 if I'm not mistaken.

Here are my NL8091, CD27 and CD47 one-tube-clocks. Hopefully the rotation will be correct when you see these. The NL8091 doesn't really have a dedicated clock, I just plugged it into a base I use for multiple tubes:
