What are the options for mounting nixie tubes that have the short pins instead of solderable wires if you don't have the matching sockets?

I have seen used IN-12 and 15s that have been soldered directly into
the PCB and I've done the same myself for prototype or experimental
purposes but for long term use I wouldn't want to put that much strain
on the seals.
The socket pins removed from standard D connectors will fit most tubes
if you have the patience to solder them individually to the PCB.

Hi Sean,

google for "Mouser pins" and you will find a ton of solderable socket pins.

Yep.

Sounds like it would be easier to just get the sockets if I can find them...

It depends on your application. Sockets need a lot of extra space, these pins do not. There are some pin variants that can be lowered into a hole so that the tube's glass envelope can almost be in direct contact with the upper PCB surface. This is a real space saver.

Additionally, finding the real sockets to the tubes can be easier said than done.
Some sockets are common, others are like hen's teeth..
