One of the vendors at today's DeAnza swap meet told me that this August will be the last TRW swap meet.  Is there any news on a replacement venue?

I'm trying to verify this as I live in So. Cal. and been to this meet many times. If it is true I'm almost willing to bet that it has something to do with the fact that TRW is no longer TRW, but is in fact Northrup Grumman, they bought TRW quite some time ago, and they may have for what ever reason put the kibosh on it. Perhaps legal or liability reasons since it's being held on their property. If true maybe the club will be able to find another place to have it. If and when I find anything out I'll let you know.  Ira.

Yep, That's the big news when I was there last at the end of March. A lot of the vendors were confused. Some thought no shows until August. But the organizers have a booth near the entrance, so I asked them; last meet in August. They are trying to find another location. I wasn't at the last meet (End of April), so I didn't get a status update. Next Saturday (end of May) will be the next one, so maybe there will be some additional news.

According to this note, posted May 19,

they have not yet found a new venue, but they intend to keep it in the same vicinity.

Lastest dirt on TRW, as of the end of June 2015. A flyer was circulated at the swap meet, yesterday, from the organization (ham club) who run it. The date of the last scheduled swap meet been extended to December, as opposed to August.

Unofficially, I've got some more dirt. The reason for no longer having the swap meet, at this location, is that Northrop Grumman, wants to wall off the entire facility. Right now its an "open campus", and the general public can just walk or drive onto the property. Its a large facility, that measures roughly 1/2 x 1/2 mile (~150 acres). One of my TRW buddies (TRW got acquired by Northrop) girlfriend works for Northrop. She says that management is currently rethinking the idea of walling off the property. Its a large expense. So the swap meet might still be running, even past December.

TRW was my first job out of college 30 years ago (almost to the exact day) and I worked in building M5. At least they are only planning to 'wall-off' and not 'sell-off' the facility.

I got out around the same time; 1984.

The facility is located at the top end of Redondo Beach, and most of it is inside the city limits:

There is a small section, which includes, or is M5 that lies a bit north of it:

The swapmeet use to be in the M5 parking lot, many decades ago. Now, its at the main facility, just above the public park. They probably intend to wall off both sections. They just can't fence it off, or erect a wall. They'll have remove a lot of trees, and do some major landscape work. Plus that park, and performing art center, have no clear demarcation, from the facility. To wall it off, they'll have to sacrifice parking, in order to still provide access to the public area. They may even have to tear down a building or two.

The lady in the Swap Meet Information booth said that they would be staying "indefinitely" and that would be at least through all of 2016.

Sounds about right. The swapmeet organizers issued a flyer back in June, saying it was extended to December. My friend's girlfriend told us, that the December date was an arbitrary date, and it would extend well past that date.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this is based winning a specific new, and very big, contract. That project has certain security requirements (the wall). That would be the only reason for the trouble and added expense. That project may have been pushed back a while.
