I'm a big fan of IN-1s. I have two from March 1992 which means they were likely among the last ever produced. Now, I'm on the hunt for the earliest IN-1 I can find. From what I understand, these tubes have been in production since at least the early 1960s. I'd love to get my hands on one of those early units to compare it and ponder the fact that, despite its three decade long production span, they never saw the need to add mercury to the tube.

The earliest one I have is from 1967. If anyone here happens to have an older one and would be willing to sell it, I would greatly appreciate a message.

Thanks

Well, here's what is left of the case of 25 IN-1's I bought about 15 years ago. Too bad the photo doesn't show how dusty they really are. I found IN-1's to be very unreliable, and within a few days they developed shorts between the numerals so more than 1 will glow at-a-time. Anything not seen here went into the microwave oven for a brilliantly colorful death. These were manufactured in 1992. Think about that for a minute...this was *after* the Soviet Union fractured and they were still dutifully manufacturing them, along with the legendary IN-18's (which are very reliable).

At least I found my piezo tweeter; I've been looking for that for a few years.

In case you wondered what happens when you mix IN-1's with a microwave oven : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYUMy0P560k
