What is it?

Hi everyone,

does anyone know what this is? Is it a neon lamp, a voltage stabilizer, or a rectifier? It's about 22 cm tall and 7-8 cm in diameter. I tried operating it with direct current.

I would have to say it is way cool!  Biggest Neon lamp bulb I've ever seen. I want one!!
