i'm working on a 16-digit display with edge-lit displays (taken from an unrepairable Canon Canola 161 calculator (1965)).

more information about this electro-optical display: https://www.oldcalculatormuseum.com/canon161.html

I've replaced the original lamp circuit board, with my own pcb with WS2812D LED neopixels. They are fitting tight in the metall lamp block.

Now it is possible to display every color an this old indicator display. At this moment only one module (for testing) is finished. But i'll replace soon in all 16 display moduls the lamps with neopixels.

The clock will be driven by a wemos d1 mini (ESP8266) - which is perfect for using NTP/Internet time and clock configuration with a smartphone/browser.

Nice!

Have you tested to reduce the "bleed" with lighting of the digit edges in any way, either by making sure that the LED shines straight down like the white tape around the lamps, or by painting the perspex sides black or perhps by lowering the LED intensity - I've seen this on some edge lite digits of similar constructions to these?
