I am looking for some Burroughs B5971 to complete a project and am wondering if anyone on this group might have some that they would be willing to part with for suitable compensation?

I am aware of the apparently NOS ones on the bay for crazy money - I love my project - but not that much!

Also:

Insane. I bought four of them 18 months ago, three for $35 apiece and $66 for a fourth plus US shipping.

Amazing.   I was buying as many as I could get up to about $65 each and thought I was being robbed (which I was), but to see $150+….. I might have to sell them.  They’re about the same as B-7971 now.

There aren't any sold at those prices on those 2 listings. I don't think you could get $80/pc even if you let it sit on ebay for a while.

I think you’re mistaken.

Item: 296271747704     1 sold $135

Most of the auctions for the 5971 have sold for well over $80 and for years they all seem to, in error, state they are for MOD SIX which I think everyone knows in this group is designed for the B7971 (Not the 5971).

Given the dwindling supply and skyrocketing prices of neon displays, I confess I've had evil-minded thoughts over the years about making similar-looking devices with small SMT LEDs.

Well. If anyone is willing to cough up $135/pc I could part with a couple...
I only recall that MOD SIX listing and seeing it not selling for a few years. I guess some people have bigger eyes and deeper pockets than I could imagine.

My own personal take on this issue that involves high, HIGH price-gouging on lots of vintage nixie tubes is this:

Economic conditions have now reached the point where makers of new high quality tubes can out-compete the market for vintage tubes.

I think everyone would be better off just waiting for Sadudu to make the upcoming B-8971.   Sure, the B-5971 tubes would be great to have, but not at the
expense of paying a ridiculous ransom to free them from captivity!

I am currently testing and evaluating the DGM01 tube.    So far I am very impressed with the quality of Sadudu's workmanship!
And take this for what it is worth, this is coming from a guy who started exploring nixie tubes in 1994. It looks to me so far
that the Inixielab.com product is every bit as good as the legendary National Electronics tubes!   I have every assurance needed right now
to say with confidence that Inixielab.com is fully capable of producing a decent B-8971 version.    -Chuck

I decided years ago that I will purchase newly-manufactured tubes, such as the RZ|568m rather than the originals, if/when they are available because the manufacturing process today uses better equipment than 50-60 years ago. Some examples: Leak-testing equipment, vacuum pumps, water-jet cut numerals, induction heating, tighter controls on glass tubing.

The problem for me is that I have a long backlog of projects just from the displays I acquired in the past few years, and I'm now on fixed income because I retired (no regrets; 27 years at Intel burned me out).
