Hi there. I'm new to the group... this is my first post (pls be kind  :)  ).

I'd like to build a 6 digit Nixie Tube clock and I'd like to make an educated purchase. I prefer the look and size of IN14 tubes. What basic features should I look for and what designs should I avoid ?  My budget for this is not unlimited... I try to stick to the value curve.

Thanks, Hugh  VA3TO

PV electronics is a good place to start. Bought my first kit from them.

I second the PV Electronics kits.  They are great, easy to assemble and have excellent customer support.  Pete posts here as well.  The site is www.pvelectronics.co.uk.

Here's another suggestion.  I have built many from these guys too.  Cool features and WiFi!

Thanks for the suggestions.  The nixieclock.biz offerings look appealing. Would you suggest the "All-in-one" which has it's own onboard controller or one of the models that uses a separate Arduino board ?   Would an external controller offer more flexibility ?  I would probably opt for a model that has the WiFi NTP option rather than the RTC version.  I've seen Atomic clock module kits that are available. Is the protocol standard enough that this can be used on these Arduino based clocks ?

Thanks, Hugh VA3TO

Hi Hugh,

Here's my personal favorite as you can chose any tube you like and mix them if you like.
Here's one I made when it was being tested

Hi Martin.
I see the text for the attachment at the bottom of your message (complete.jpg) but it's not coming up for me.  I'm new to google groups. Do I need to enable something in order to view attachments ?

Thanks, Hugh VA3TO

An IN-14 kit with built in WiFi and all parts included (except an Arduino Uno, get it on the 'bay for ~$5) for $41 is a hell of a deal.

I had not seen these before... I have some IV-12 tubes that need a home.  I will have to check these out.

Well,
I took BLKADDER's advice and ordered this one from PV
1 x IN-12 / IN-17 Nixie Tube Clock Kit (No Tubes)

Hi Martin

I just completed my first clock based on PV Electronics  QTC+ IN-14 and was impressed with the quality of the kit, easy to follow instructions, and great help from Pete.

I am already thinking about what to build next, hopefully looking to build a larger tube model.

Good Luck

Thanks Paul.  The site looked good as well as the docs.  The other site I suggested is a bit more work, but well documented as well and offers similar options..  When I "go big" it will be Dailbor's tube of course!
