I've finally got around to offering my dohickie circuit as a kit:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251306157126

It's a follow up, to my spinner kit, but a tad fancier. Ironically, the design is older, but the boards I had made for it, earlier, used many surface mount parts. This new one, is all thru-hole, so very friendly, as a kit.

That is a neat kit. I like the ambient sound setting, it does indeed mimik the magic eye quite well (and uses less power :-) ). What music you got there, sounds like the pogues, or not?

Actually "Pirate Radio", by Mojo Nixon:

He had modest popularity, in the late 80's, with tunes like "Debbie Gibson is pregnant...":

Many of tunes are too rude (and crude) for the kiddies.

Ah yes, Mojo Nixon.

Saw him and Skid Roper play live in Manhattan back in the 80's.  Loads of crude fun. Burn down the mall indeed.

That is a nice dekatron kit. Glad I scarfed one up early this morning

Very nice kit! I wonder, how hard would it be to modify it for B13B base dekatrons?

There are two "jumper blocks" on the board. J3 has the generated signals, and J4 connects 1-to-1 to the octal socket pads. Obviously, a B13B socket won't just plug into the holes meant for an octal socket. But with short pieces of solid hookup wire, you can suspend that 13pin socket over the octal pads. Here's a drawing if you want to use a Z504S:

I flipped the Z504S pinout, so it shows the top view. In the data sheets its usually the bottom view, which would be a mirror image. The letters in red are the suggested jumpering, from J3 to J4. Only a suggestion. You can then solder in the hook up wires into those pads, and tie them to the corresponding signals on the B13B socket. Assuming a Z504S dekatron.

Mike, is the board size the same as the spinner board?

Oh, took me a while, but finally found it. Will correct the typo, shortly. Good thing I wasn't visiting a porn site just before.

Nope, its bigger by roughly a half inch on each side. The spinner is 2.3"x2.3". The do-hickie is 2.85"x2.85".

Well, not that hard then. I was wondering if it would be possible that you would make a B13B kit in the future? I was offered to buy about 20 to 30 (seller was not sure) Z564S dekatrons for reasonable price. I do not intend to buy them for myslef, but i could get them for somebody else, because selling them one by one on ebay would take so long. But if there was use for them (B13B spiner kit) they could sell pretty well i can imagine. They are really nice tubes (i am not sure about their life and other specifications) one of only few dekatrons without the getter mirror.

@kay486

I would be interested in buying a few Z564S dekatrons if you are trying to figure out how to get rid of some from the lot you mentioned (assuming you purchase it).

I guess the best thing would be to make an adapter plug. With the B13B socket on top, and an octal plug, on the bottom. I actually have one that was made to accept a Z504S(ZM1070), which then could be used as a 6082 substitute. But If I made one, I'd have to add the two jumper blocks, so other tubes could be used. There are several B13B dekatrons:

8353
CT4251
Z564S
Z562S
7978
Z504S/ZM1070
Z505S/ZM1060

And the pinouts vary among the lot. Maybe prewired for Z504S, since those seem to be the most common, relatively speaking.

So how's this Z564S deal working ? Maybe a group buy ?

I could be up for some, depending on price and condition.

Shouldn''t it be easier to make adapters from 'Alien' sockets to octal.  I am trying to do so for my spinner kit. Then you can leave away the jumpers and plug the tube in the adapter.
Octal bases aren't so expensive....

Well, he said they are NOS and that he has about 20 to 30 tubes. I can ask him if he still has them and what would be the price if i get all of them. I do not promise anything though, i spoke with him few months ago.

Would this work the same for an A-101 tube?

threeneurons

Electrically, yes. The A101 does, however, have an odd 13 pin base, and the dohickie provides an octal socket. J3 provides all the signals:
1) G1 to A101 pin-5
2) G2 to A101 pin-10
3) G3
4) G3
5) Anode to A101 pin-8
6) Ndx to A101 pin-13
7) Ret to all other pins
8) Ret
9) Ret

You can always create an improvised socket:
The base pins on an A101 will fit nicely inside a Molex 0.093" female pin.
