Well see, maybe when they shrink them down to chip scale.  I'm finding the DS3232 to be a bit on the large size these days.

Maybe you can use DS3232M or DS3231M? They are both soic-8, and share the same command set.

Looked at them. 

I'd use them automatically over the larger ds3232 but they appear to only be about 1/2 as accurate.
