The book is up on Ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cold-Cathode-Tubes-John-Brian-Dance-1967-ID-10953-/131270014034?pt=Fiction&hash=item1e904d7452

No connection.

The same seller has the book on AbeBooks slightly cheaper.

I am afraid it is not genuine, but a copy. The advertisement says it has 125
pages, whereas my pdf copy shows 390 pages!!
It is also strange there is no sign of a publisher's name on the cover.

Well, it is identical to the hardback copy I have, same cover, same text
and font, same pink colour and 125 pages. The publisher's name is on
the spine and on the back cover and not on the front.

Mine still has the loan library sheet in the front from the Royal Radar
Establishment Library in Malvern Worcestershire. So I'm sure mine is
genuine. Bought by the RRE on 2-Feb-1968!

I wonder if you have a different book? Could you extract and post, say,
the contents page so I could compare? Or is your copy available for
download anywhere?

A quick look at my other books by JB Dance shows "Electronic Counting
Circuits" also published by Iliffe Books Ltd in 1967 has 390 pages.
Coincidence or answer?

Eric,

I think you are confusing it with the other book by JB Dance - he wrote two that are relevant for us. "Electronic Counting Circuits" is 390 pages, whereas "Cold Cathode Tubes" is indeed much shorter. My copy of the latter looks just like that in the photo and is an original. Both were published by Iliffe.

Grahame,

Ah, yes that's the same!

May be the short one in pink cover is a first publishing or so.

I have missed the pages between p. 295 and p376 for a long time. Finally
somebody sent them to me.

Cheers,

I glad we are in agreement. The "pink book" "Cold Cathode Tubes" I
spotted has a different focus to the "green book" "Electronic Counting
Circuits" as it has chapters on discharge lamps, voltage stabilisation,
radiation detector tubes and high current tubes. The counting circuits
book does just what the title says, going off into the marvelous world
of the E1T, beam switching, mechanical, vacuum and solid state counters.

Currently in reprint by Gyan books of India for US$8.95, it's a decent fascimile edition of the Iliffe one.  My only beef is that the clear coating on
the dust jacket is peeling off.

Graham,

Oops, I think I was too sleepy to discover the mixing up. The fact is that
both the texts resemble each others when looking at a glance...
