However, its "ART", so normal rules don't apply. Personally, I think its lovely and there's a lot of work in there - completely hand-made and only 6 a year are available.

Stunning work, though he is doing a limited run of 12 clocks - 12x6 = 72 x Z568 tubes! 

Finding a box of NOS Z568s in a "Bulgarian Army Warehouse" must be quite a thing.

Its a shame that Z568x have become so expensive - I'm not convinced that they are actually that rare - there must be 1000s in the old Eastern Europe - like diamonds (which aren't rare at all), by dripfeeding the market, the price is inflated. Supply & demand...

I bought my cache many years ago when they were 35 euros each - the price now is simply silly - not bought one for over 10 years now.

I think this is true of any reasonable sized tubes – like the B7971’s – same thing. 

I would like to build a new clock, but not for silly money….

Not quite - The B7971 was specially made in a limited run - just a few 1000s in total - and we know that the last cache known to exist of those was dispersed a few years ago - several members here bought significant caches - I know of at least two in the UK and more elsewhere of 100s of tubes each - as far as we know, that's it for 7971s - they were sold off for between USD 15 and USD 25 each - the guy who found them was a coin dealer and didn't really want them.

Z568xs, OTOH, were a commodity tube and used all over the place, so I suspect that there ar probably 10s of 1000s left, but because they're hidden away and drip-fed onto the market, the price is held high.

Part of the reason that I'm now doing neon & scientific glassware (like Alek, Dalibor and probably several others), is because this cosy cartel of suppliers needs to have competition.
