Hi All

Here's a scope clock that Nick Stock and I are just finishing off. It
was inspired by a AEG Paper from 1967 that Martin (Dekatron42) sent to me.

Two case designs, a common horizontal case and a vertical case like a
Simpsons MirroScope.

Details are here:

http://www.sgitheach.org.uk/scope4.html

Open Design - all Eagle, Gerbers, STL and DXF files available on my
Public Dropbox.

No source code as there is no microcontroller!

Enjoy Grahame

neat!

(and if you can do it with TTL, you should be able to do it with vacuum tubes)

Then you'll not be surprised by what I have sketched in a notebook ;^)

My next challenge is a circle graphics clock without using a microcontroller.

A small desk clock then...

LOL.

But you can use dekatrons for the division, right ?

Just about. You hit the frequency limit for common (like GC10B) neon dekatrons when trying to get a flicker free refresh for the image. Trying to avoid the high speed dekatrons. The clock time keeping is easy enough with dekatrons.

I really like how it came out, both the landscape version and the portrait one!

Elesta EZ10A or B should be usable, they are quite easy to drive at high speeds, and even the small Russian A-107, 8 & 9 or even 110 should work. :)

Very nice! Thanks for sharing this. Another possible project for my bench.

Excellent! Thanks for posting. This is definitely relevant to my
interests in analog character generation... Maybe one day I will have
more to show than this:

Thanks again

Is that paper online?

Thanks again

Grahame put it here, where he also put the Trochotron books I referred to in another thread here at the forum, I just didn't find it when I was looking for it the other day: https://groups.google.com/g/neonixie-l/c/QKthffs5u5w/m/eMhlS4O2AQAJ

I have started to collect parts for this clock.  The best deal I have found on 3ASP1 tubes (turns out they are Siemens ones) is from BTB-Electronik, https://btb-elektronik.de/ for 40 euro.  Now to find or kludge the unobtanium side contact

Hi

Jan has D9-10 CRTs available and also a slightly smaller D8-11. Both should work with my hardware (I have a couple coming to test). The D9-10 CRT is used in the original AEG paper and has no side connector.

https://www.die-wuestens.de/eindex.htm

email Jan for information

I (and others) have been looking for that side connector for ages! I have one 3ASP1 coming (again to test) and hope to 3D print something using a flexi filament and Be-Cu fingers for the contacts. A croc clip works great for testing but I want something that looks right as well.
