Not sure I've seen those kinds of Panaplex displays before. Some are clearly well used, but a steal for a collector I think...

Cheers (and Happy Father's Day to all the dads in the group).

those displays would make a wonder watch! They are about an inch wide for four digits?

If someone on the list does buy these, please share the part numbers... I'm not familiar with panaplex 5-digit displays or TBH, the 4-digit ones in this unit...

Cheers,

Nick

The seller lists the part numbers in the full description:
These have part numbers: SP-324 for the four 4-digit displays and SP-325 for the single 5-digit display.

Cheers,
Scott.

Hello.
From the item description those displays should be SP-324 and SP-325. The shape matches this page https://digital.sciencehistory.org/works/7p88cg81j but not the size.

I have converted a similar unit that uses Minitrons (Collins DME receiver, see picture) and the panel side is 8.6 cm (3.4 in, the long side of a credit card). According to sizes of displays mentioned in the above page, something doesn't match.

If you can find a complete unit to convert into a clock it makes a wonderful present to any aviation enthusiat. My DME receiver has a two positions switch, a potentiometer and a push button: these are enough to create a clock that can be adjusted, tells time/date/temperature (button press) and dimmed. All without drilling a single hole :)

Thanks for the Scott, looks like my reading comprehension could do with some work.... ;)

How is it that after 20 or so years in this hobby, I have now discovered yet another display type... I thought I'd seen/heard of them all...  thanks for that link Paolo!

Cheers,

Nick

Both Collins Radio (Cedar Rapids, IA) and King Radio (Olathe, KS) licensed, separately, Panaplex technology from Dale (Columbus, NE).  Both companies manufactured those displays in-house for use with their own avionics equipment.  While the fundamental technology was the same, significant design changes were made by each company to facilitate operation over wider temperature and emissivity (brightness) ranges.  I believe King production ended sometime in the early 2000's.  Collins production ended much earlier as they supplanted their plasma displays with dichromic LCD's in the 90's.
