Is that the frequency reference in lower left in the 5th picture?  Wow if that's the reference oscillator that's a big old school one for sure.

NIce!    I bought a similar one 25 years ago at the Orlando, FL hamfest out in the parking lot for $5.

Made by CMC.  Got it home, was going to scrap for parts but powered it up only to find that it works just fine!

Super accurate frequency counter, it has the reference in an oven so once the temp. stabilizes it's very very accurate.

I have a couple of HP RF sig gen that have the tunable cavity klystron in them, no nixies in those though...

I've got an HP 5326B frequency counter I picked up at the TRW swap meet in Los Angeles at least 20 years ago - of course, it was old then (1970's vintage).  Even now though, it's astonishingly accurate - it agrees out to +/- one count in the 7th digit with my Fluke frequency reference.  I don't hold on to it because of the Nixies, but because it's a damn good piece of test equipment.

Similar story for me. I bought an FM signal generator from a friend back in 1975 because it had nixies and very cool illuminated switches. Kept the freq counter for a few years, junked it for the nixies, and they sat in my junkbox for about 30 years. Then in 2011, I finally built my first nixie clock and have been an addict ever since.

It all came full-circle last year when I bought an HP 5245 from a local surplus shop, so now I once again have a freq counter with nixies. Only THIS time there is NO WAY it will get scrapped....
