Hi

It doesn't seem possible to download them in bulk - they have to be done one at a time. ..

Thanks for the offer - there are quite a few members with hosting capacity do that's not really the issue - it's more the pain and aggravation :)

Hmm, sounds like a job for a solution from the "many hands make light work" school...

Nick, is there any easy way to get the directory tree? If we used that to break the problem down into discrete chunks which could be allocated out to volunteers who still have access to the site. Everyone shares the boredom of manually downloading a chunk's worth of files, but then collectively we have it all and can reassemble the content into a suitably organised dropbox or similar.

The files back on the Yahoo site do contain some really useful info - at least it taught me how to use the tubes - so it'd be a waste to lose it.

Cheers,

Jon.

I would volunteer to do a chunk if told what, where and how.

Hi Guys,

if it could be of any use here is a zip with all the files (as to my
knowledge)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/olsb5q7aj6dw25w/neonixie-yahoo-files.zip

Downloaded zip says "invalid".  Do we need to have permissions?

FWIW, I'd prefer that we used some public storage area rather than someone's private server as doing so can avoid "unexpected consequences" in the future (you can see where I'm going on this - we've had some unfortunate experiences in the past).

There is a potential issue with copyright - the files were uploaded to the old Yahoo! neonixie-l group with the general intention that that is where they'd live - it's very likely that most of the owners of those documents don't care what becomes of them, but one thing is for sure, they're not de facto in the public domain and devoid of copy restrictions.

So, I would be happier if we had a Google-hosted (as per this forum) or similar solution - lets have some ideas from the mods and forum members...

Thanks

Nick

Jon, I have re-downloaded that zip and it looks all right. Opened it
with winrar and directly from windows explorer. To download I have used
that 'private window' option in my browser to be sure it's not about
permissions. Please try once more. If it sill doesn't work I will figure
out another way.

Marcin,

I did get it downloaded. I was initially trying to use my Chrome browser when the "invalid" zip file messages started, but I had to go to IE which worked.  Then I got the Dropbox prompting for my account password.  It downloaded fine and I am able to open it now.  That was weird.

Thx,

Jon

Seems to be complete, to avoid browser problems I just used wget

wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/olsb5q7aj6dw25w/neonixie-yahoo-files.zip

wget is great to download any large files as it knows to retry from the
right place if the download fails..
