My brother Jim and I are driving across the USA from Arizona to Chicago, to then drive from Chicago to Los Angeles in the Route Sucky-Suck Lemons rally. We're in an old hearse.
We just got some gas at a little place by Lake of the Ozarks, that still has its 1970s pumps with Panaplex displays.

I also have been to a gas station in Page near Antelope Canyon, the pump still using Panaplex displays, I used to drive over 5,000 km around the west coast with my wife last year.

There's a little primitive service garage locally that still has a mechanical pump in operation. No fancy Panaplex displays, just rolling digits. You can see where the face of the pump had been modified with a tin snips to accommodate a mechanism with the extra $ digit.

Next time I go by I'll see if I can pull thru and grab a photo.

I probably know that one! I was in Page last year and also purchased gas at a station that used panaplex.

Here in Switzerland a lot of privately owned fuels stations (no brand fuel) are still using mechanical flip displays, i like the "chckckckckck" sound when they count up the price.

This is great, and to us UK folk looks especially nostalgic, mainly thanks to the fuel price. A US gallon of petrol in the UK would be around $6.50 by my calculation...
Lovely ride, have fun!

And we found another gas station with working Panaplex equipped Gilbarco pumps, in Kingman AZ, and of course got fuel there. Also found an abandoned station in New Mexico with several of the pumps in various states of vandalism/parts theft. Several displays were still there, and available for theft, if you're into that kind of thing.

Last time I drove through Page, AZ, a panaplex display was the new technology !
