After successfully mass-producing the DGM01 Nixie tube, we received extensive feedback from our customers. A significant number of inquiries were about whether our tubes are compatible with IN18 clocks. Therefore, I am considering producing a new IN18 Nixie tube that will feature the same base and digit sequence as the original IN18. This will ensure it can be directly used in all IN18 clock designs.

The new IN18 will match the original IN18 in size and packaging, allowing for direct replacement. The estimated price will be around $59 per tube include shipping, with significant discounts for bulk orders (over 100 tubes). We plan to produce 5,000 Nixie tubes annually (including DGM01 and IN18 and 58mm tube and 83mm large tube) in 2025.

I have a question: Should I stick to the original IN18 digit design, or keep the current digit style of the DGM01? Based on customer feedback, many find the DGM01's digit design more aesthetically pleasing than the IN18.

Additionally, if anyone is interested in the new IN18 tubes, please let me know! We will provide special discounts for early supporters.

I like the DGM01 tube just as it is!    Pinout.  Base.   Everything seems just fine as-is.   It will be really hard to improve it!
It is extremely well made.

Use your digit style. Make them different than the IN-18. Leave the IN-18 to legacy for future collectors. It is never a good idea to copy exactly. Instead, create a compatible design that future collectors can appreciate as a different, but compatible design. That's my opinion.

A direct replacement for the IN-18 is a game-changer and a wise move. I dont need any at this time, but I will certainly buy one to test it out as a spare. Right now I only have one spare, and I've been lucky that all of the IN-18's in my 14-tube clock still work just fine.

Especially since you can offer tubes with alternate fonts and grids that will work with existing kits.

Don't forget air pressure and humidity. And above all "K". That's my kind of Nixie thermometer.

"eV" would be cool as well.

I'll echo a few of the other group member's comments here.... An IN18 pin compatible tube would be most welcome, it's a great size and the price sounds very reasonable for the effort involved. I have a clock with your DGM01 tubes and they are very nice, bright and I like the digit's aesthetic, so I'd vote for keeping them unique and not trying to copy the exact format of the IN18. Symbol tubes to go with it would also be a nice addition too.

Best of luck and I'd be interested in some tubes when they're ready.

An IN-18 replacement with the original pin geometry and tube dimensions is a great idea and the price point makes sense. I am torn, however between making the digits an exact copy vs your unique version. I lean toward an exact copy for obvious reasons where the ability to replace a failed tube among the remaining 5 in a clock at this price point will be welcome. My IN-18 stock has run very low and I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices and wade through the questionable quality of what's out there. BUT, I would support the unique version as well, so count me in. Hopefully this will open the flood gates for many more tube versions to come! Big FAT END VIEWS come to mind!  Thanks!

Like Nick, I think that all the above points are valid.
For my money - I like the DGM01 a lot so the same thing on an IN-18 base but with the aesthetics of a DGM01 gets my vote.
I absolutely positively don't need any right now - so put me down for a set of 6 on your super early bird discount basis - I just can't fight the urge, resistance is futile!

I'm good for 6 or 8 at least I'd say,  either way.

Hi all.

Some news to update.

I have made a new IN18 sample to test.

I called the new tube "IN18s", it have same size as Russia IN18, the same pinout, it means you can install to your IN18 clock directly!!

It has beautiful numbers, I install Z566M's number inside the IN18s. it looks very clear and bright.

Beside, I use some new technology, now you can see the backplate is totally dark in front view, no any reflect, In the back of the plate, it shows like a mirror !

I have upload a video in Youtube. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Y9Buvf8HThc

Here are some pictures.

If you have any advice, please tell me, if possible I will update it in next version.

It's OK for me, I am making Z568MAX now, I have made a sample, it can be seen in here.

But it needs plenty of money to start a new nixie tube project...
