World Seeker lacks the detail of contemporary open-world games, but moving around and getting into fights is fun. The story and characters (new and old alike) are engaging all the way to the explosive finale

One Piece: World Seeker could have been so much more that it is. While many of its elements were executed rather well and are still very enjoyable, many others feel uninspired and generic. Hopefully, Bandai Namco and Ganbarion learn from this first attempt at an open-world One Piece game and are able to improve on it in the future, as World Seeker has made it clear that One Piece would work very well as a large-scale open-world game.

One Piece fans will be satisfied with the return of classic characters and a spectacular set of moves for Luffy, but those in search of a complete, challenging open world adventure have far better options in the market.

The best way to look at One Piece World Seekeris that it's an anime game that is trying to be slightly better than the usual anime game. In this aspect the game succeeds, it just comes at a hefty price. Nice visuals and a new story don't completely make up for lackluster combat and empty world, but they do help. So, if you just want a fairly easy open world game set in the world of One Piece, then this should meet your expectations. But, if you want deep or complicated journey through the world of One Piece, you might want to keep looking.

One Piece: World Seeker is an unfinished game. Its open world is shockingly barren, its gameplay is clearly undercooked, and its presentation is placeholder. Eventually, Luffy's skill tree does allow for a little more fun, but the title still ends up feeling like an in-house development build that's used for playtesting, not a full price retail release. As a One Piece game it's bad enough, but as an open world title in 2019, it's borderline unacceptable.

One Piece: World Seeker marks an interesting foray into the open-world genre for Luffy, borrowing familiar sandbox mechanics from games like Spider-Man and the Arkham series. It's not as polished as those games and can be guilty of incorporating some of the more annoying and overused mechanics of the genre. The original story, however, is very much One Piece and its fun boss fights are pure, over-the-top mayhem. It's not quite Pirate King yet but has potential to be a promising series with some extra polish.

Even if you don't know anything about the manga or anime, One Piece: World Seeker will dazzle your mind with its colorful world and satisfy your need to bash some skulls with its addictive combat. In other words, it's a great time.

One Piece: World Seeker[a] is an action-adventure video game based on the manga and anime series One Piece. Developed by Ganbarion and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game is the first video game in the franchise to feature an open world environment.[1][2] The game was released on March 15, 2019, for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. Characters that appear in the game include the entire Straw Hat crew, Akainu, Kizaru, Kuma, Tashigi, Smoker, Sabo, Buggy, Rob Lucci, and Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji from Germa 66.[3]

The game's combat features stealth elements and Luffy can use the Observation Haki to see enemies from behind walls.[3] Techniques from the anime like Gum Gum Rocket which allows Luffy to easily traverse the world and Gum Gum Bazooka are also featured in the game.[3]

The One Piece: World Seeker original soundtrack album by Kohei Tanaka, comprising 56 soundtracks, was released on March 15, 2019. The theme song for the Japanese version is "Kimi no Moto e" (君のもとへ, "To You") by Ketsumeishi. The western version uses an original piece called "Road to Ichiban" instead due to licensing issues.

Over the past 18 years, the anime/manga One Piece has received myriad video games across numerous genres. Among all those adaptations, World Seeker represents what is easily its most ambitious attempt to emulate what it might be like to be Luffy and be part of his Straw Hat crew. World Seeker may lack the detail and technical prowess of its open-world peers, but it delivers fun combat and exploration in an open environment with an enjoyable story to pull you along through the whole journey.

The thrill of moving through the world is World Seeker's biggest highlight. Whether Luffy's grabbing the sides of buildings or the tops of trees, his rubber arms propel you through the environments at high speed. It feels great, and after acquiring some upgrades, zipping from point to point lets you cover tons of ground quickly. Plus, it looks awesome. I enjoyed it so much, I often chose moving around that way instead of using the fast-travel system.

One Piece is one of the longest-running franchises I still find myself watching and reading week to week. With over 900 chapters of the manga and over 800 anime episodes, something about the world and its characters keeps pulling me back in.

The World Government is a federation of over 170 affiliated nations that governs most of the world. It was founded by an alliance of 20 kingdoms 800 years ago and has since vastly grown in influence.

The World Government is affiliated with roughly 170 countries from around the world.[8] Member countries retain autonomy and run their own internal affairs (though the World Government does sometimes intervene), but cooperate with the World Government for international relations. Their political ideals are unknown and everything they do is considered to be right. Not everyone approves of their political ideals, as there are people like Monkey D. Dragon who are against it.

They approve of Absolute Justice and are based in the holy land of Mary Geoise. The World Government is secretly ruled by Imu, whose orders are carried out by the Five Elders, the highest public authority in the world, rendering the entire political institution a pure authoritarian, oligarchic regime. They depend on the Marines and (formerly) the Seven Warlords of the Sea to keep the Four Emperors and other antagonistic forces from defying them and causing chaos.[9]

The World Government maintains an international order that claims to benefit all, making the world safe for the sake of everyone. Using the Marines, they pursue criminals endangering the lives of those who are innocent, protecting the people of each country in the world. The World Government, as the largest political power, holds full rights to halt or encourage any political action without question or opposition.[10][11][12]

However, the reality is that unknown to most citizens (and many world leaders), the World Government's actions and policies tend to be secretly based on corruption or questionable motives. They hide the truth or ignore the rights of the people, with many individuals using "justice" to further their own aims. Individuals who are deemed enemies of the World Government are viciously hunted down and dealt with, and all those who walk along the same path as them are doomed to share the World Government's wrath. Nico Robin, in particular, spent her entire life running from the World Government, and everyone who she joined soon betrayed her for the bounty on her head, or found themselves against the Marines and other government forces.[13] While some people are beginning to question the motives of the World Government, the general public still trusts them and would tend to believe information from them.

The World Government's power to release information on anyone as they please can often lead to the truth being suppressed, altered or ignored completely. Any countries attempting to protect or harbor criminals are at risk from the World Government, and some have been known to be destroyed completely. For the most part, the important role they have in maintaining world stability far outweighs the corruption they often display.

Despite the institution of slavery being abolished publicly, the World Government still allows such practice in the underworld, mainly due to the Celestial Dragons' exceptional privileges; in fact, government agents themselves would buy slaves to be trained into sailors or agents, in order to bolster the ranks of the Marines and Cipher Pols. For that, they conducted transactions with slave traders to obtain entry into different countries such as Elbaf, to allow for a larger variety of "merchandise".[18]

Regardless of the policies enacted by the World Government that strictly forbade negotiating, harboring or allying with criminals, they have conducted secret negotiations with Wano Country's shogun Kurozumi Orochi for weapons to combat pirates. They have initiated these business arrangements by utilizing the notorious underworld broker Joker as a confidential intermediate. His defeat by the Straw Hat Pirates-Heart Pirates alliance forced CP0 into direct bargaining with the Wano shogun despite his alliance with the Beasts Pirates. The Wano shogun noted in their previous talks he only desired naval battleships but since his position has strengthened he demanded they give Vegapunk to him and shot an agent who insisted his ultimatum could not be fulfilled.[27]
