Hi Guys,

I'm about 3 weeks into Neo development for my site.  It's a shoestring startup that despite getting a very healthy number of daily uniques is currently making no money.  I'm hoping that Neo4J can help with that!

My app is hosted on Cloudbees and ultimately deployed in Amazon US-EAST-1.  I looked into Neo hosting and found GrapheneDB.  Not only could they do what I wanted but they can set me up with a Neo instance in US-EAST-1 for low latency connections over REST.

However I've just found out that their cheapest plan is $200/month for an m1.small instance with 20GB.  The next step up is $400!

I simply cannot afford these numbers on something that, at this stage is reasonably speculative for me.

So just wondering what other options I have?  I could go the vanilla Amazon route documented here: http://www.neo4j.org/develop/ec2 and am strongly considering it, but are there any other services out there that could work for a shoestring startup like mine?

Thanks,
Ben.

If you don't mind rolling up your sleeves and doing a little system admin work, then I recommend WebNX out of Los Angeles.

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1348231&highlight=webnx

They provide Monster RAM boxes for peanuts, and offer pretty good specs for low cost servers as well.

Newest Generation Haswell G3220 3ghz dual core, 8gb ram, 1x 128gb SSD(or 1TB HDD) $69

But... you gotta do everything yourself, secure your own box, configuration, tuning, back-ups, logging, etc.

Thanks Max.  I guess that's basically the option that I have with the native EC2 hosting, although in that case at least both servers will be in the Amazon US-EAST-1 region for low latency.

So I guess I'm looking for something a bit more fully featured along the lines of Graphene?

If no such affordable service exists, is this a potential stumbling block for other startups like me looking to integrate Neo?

Hi Ben,

You could take a look at https://graphhost.com/ - that might be a more acceptable price range?

Hello,

I'm Alberto, co-founder of GrapheneDB.

Just leaving a note here in case others are in the same situation and looking for affordable Neo4j hosting on AWS.
Back in February we only offered dedicated hosting starting at a price point of $200/mo.

We have added affordable shared instances to our offering months ago. Shared plans start at $50/mo and feature backups, SSL, support for plugins/extensions and more.
More information can be found on our pricing page.

Alberto.
