Hi Everyone,

I could not see graphical view of my nodes (few days ago I could see it). Can anyone help me with that.

Thanks,
Nirmal

Sorry for posting, it was a silly hitch and got cleared. I could see it.

Thanks,

I am afraid I was not so clever as Nirmal and still have this problem.  I'm just testing and don't have many nodes, so I'd like to view my entire graph.  My query is "START n = node(*) RETURN n;"
  • Returned 4 rows.
  • Query took 28ms

This query works fine in the console tab's query tool.  But in the data browser tab, even when I hit v to toggle to the visualizer, I'm greeted with the same gray screen, and can't see my data.  What did I miss?

Thanks,
Adam

Adam,
I just did a very short screencast involving the databrowser over at http://neo4j-org-staging.herokuapp.com/create/example_data, does that help you?

Hi Peter, thanks for the video, but I find I'm still not seeing any nodes when I use the data browser's visualizer.  Both with the actors dataset you suggested in the video, and with a custom data set I created with 4 connected nodes, and my screen looks blank gray, exactly like the picture Nirmal sent originally.

I played with the profile settings, thinking maybe the gray of the font or nodes matched the background, but no dice.  Re-layout also has no effect.  I see no visualization whether I query just node(0), or node(*), even though these queries are returning nodes under the tabular view.  I'm viewing in Chrome and Firefox, and as far as I can tell, I'm not blocking any key javascript.

Thanks,
Adam

Adam,

can you check the javascript console of your browsers to see if there were any errors?
Also try shift-reload the page in case some older script is cached by the browser.

Can you try it with another Neo4j instance, e.g. this one:

Thanks

Checking both firebug and the chrome javascript consoles, I don't see any errors or warnings for this page.  I didn't see any change when shift-reloading.  I checked: http://nosql-now.herokuapp.com/webadmin/#/console/ and had the same problem here.  (Also, was there only a single node in this Heroku instance?)  I'm using the neo4j-enterprise-1.9-SNAPSHOT version.  I'm not having javascript issues browsing elsewhere.

Thanks!

There should have been more nodes in that instance :)

Did you only try it with the cypher query, or also by just entering a single node id in the search bar?

Hmm, perhaps I'm having several problems then.  The dashboard only reports 1 node for me in that instance.  After reloading this several times, it turns out I actually can see it (node 0) in the visualizer when I type just [0] for the query.  Any other cypher queries (such as the default) return "invalid query."  Is some obsolete local version of this cached and fighting with other versions of the web admin somehow?

Sorry I seem to be lacking a way of catpuring screenshots through vnc.

basically, a simple query (start n=node(*) return n) returns 6 nodes. the list view is perfect, yet the visualization frame is empty if I switch the view.

This sounds like a JavaScript or other browser bug. Could you maybe open a browser debugger console and see if there are any resources not loaded, or any javascript errors reported?

I still can't figure it out. No obvious console errors were observed?

Can somebody confirm that they were able to see the graph layout on a similar platform (Ubuntu, firefox 22)?

Im also having the same issue. The visualizer is empty after a query.
HOWEVER, if I click a node I get as a result from a query(thus getting to the node property view) and then switch to the visualizer it works.

That's unfortunately how it is today, the visualizer / query combination didn't get the love it deserved.

will be better in 2.0

So there is no way to visualize the whole DB, besides starting with a single node and loading the rest by clicking through the nodes?

What you can do in the databrowser if you have indexed your data:

enter something like this in the search bar:

node:index:indexname:key:*

e.g.

node:index:Movie:id:*

or

node:index:node_auto_index:id:*

then you will get a big Vizualization of all the nodes from that index query and the relationships between them.
And if you auto-index on a common field (like id or type) then you can get all off them.

Sorry for the workaround

HTH,

Michael

node:index:__types__:*:* does the trick :)
Actually I dont mind the workaround, as much as I think there should be a hint about the limitations in the GUI.
All in all i really like the databrowser, especially the possibilities to customize the styles. Now, if it could also display the properties of relationships ... :)

I have the same issue after clicking "Clear" in the graphic view. All graph data disappears, and no new queries will restore the graph view. Only after clicking a node in table view can I get back to see any data in graphic view.

Same problem with webadmin data browser being blank on both Chrome 32.0.1700.107, Safari 6.0.5 (7536.30.1), albeit the http://localhost:7474/browser/ works for viz. Am running OSX v10.7.5 / 11.4.2 Darwin Kernel Version 11.4.2: Thu Aug 23 16:25:48 PDT 2012; root:xnu-1699.32.7~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64 and Neo4j v2.0.1 community.

When performing a "match n return n" the tabular view works. The viz doesn't do anything until a specific node or rel is called, then it will viz once. After a clear, nothing again. A simple "rels:19" command immediately drew the window for me i.e. a valid relationship call to a node rather than drawing just the nodes?

It looks like the nodes the visualization is trying to load are not there?

They were previously deleted. I can try emptying the cache but that would not address the root cause of a successful tabular query and failed viz?

I seem to have the same problem. I am new to Neo4j and have installed Neo4j2.1.1 binary version on windows 7. I have created few nodes I can see them as a list in webadmin data browser but cannot visualise them.

As long as the node count is below 1000 nodes I can visualise all of them on localhost:7474/browser but not in webadmin data browser. Also as suggested in one of the posts above I am able to visualise a single node after clicking it from nodes list.. but I do need to visualise all nodes. The fact that I will probably end up creating more then 10m nodes being able to visualise the nodes and their relationships will be really good...

On the developer debugging console i see below errors

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 400 (Bad Request) http://localhost:7474/db/manage/server/console/
3Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'node' of null Renderer.js:238

What do you want to use the webadmin for?
And could you check the javascript error console for any error messages?

Hi, I’m new to neo4j, working through the Neo4j chapter in “Seven Databases in Seven Week”.

I seem to have run into the same problem, ever since i clicked the "Clear" Button: Empty graph, full list. On MacOS Mavericks, with both Firefox and Safari. Restarting neo4j or clearing the browser cache didn't help. No error reported in the neo4j.0.0.log or console.log.

What did help, though, please don't ask me why: Entering and searching the ids of all nodes (I only have 6).
1, Search, 2, Search, ...
This drew the graph showing the ids, though i had set the style to show the names. When i edited the colors of the style, the names came back up.

All other queries came back blank, also those recommended in this discussion, except for the index query because i didn't create an index. Most of the time, I tried "MATCH (n) RETURN n;", which would draw the nodes that i had reanimated since the Clear by searching for the id.

I also observed that after a "Clear", a node created by clicking the Plus Node Button shows up. A node created in Cypher doesn't (but gets created fine).

Some more questions that came up:
I hit that "Clear" Button while looking for a way to refresh the graph. Is there any way to refresh it without losing it?
What does the "Clear" Button do?

Ciao, Ynux

I think you should switch to the new Neo4j browser.

The old webadmin UI is no longer developed and will be removed at some point.
