I'm in.

Also, this is a quick 4-page read from MCG on playing online - worth the quick read.

I'm definitely skipping the wedding and playing the game instead.

I've already skipped the wedding, working on the divorce.

Yeah, Roll20 for the table.  What platform do we want to use for comms?

Roll 20 for vid & audio?

I can hop in for a test-run this week, to see how things are working.

I'm willing to give it a shot.  They've had a lot of time to fix things (and now the whole world it going to stress-test it).

Is the LMDDD Discord still a viable backup?

Yuuup, although it's audio only. And here's an invite link: https://discord.gg/2uwYm7Z

Roll20 video has been acceptable for my D&D game for the last couple years.  It's definitely improved, though it seems like one or two people chronically drop out.  If you whack the "reconnect" button from time to time you can sometimes fix it.  Or sometimes make it worse.

We still use discord for audio, and that works perfectly 95-ish % of the time.  We're all sort of nearby, which might help, though we do switch between various servers (including South) if the connection gets weird.  There still seems to be some issues in the Me <==> Discord <==> Trufant chain, though, as witnessed time and again with pathfinder over the years (hence the recent use of Skype).  Also, though discord chat rooms themselves are audio only, we could build a video chat with multiple participants if we were so inclined.  Might just exacerbate any audio issues that already exist, though

Also, Skype supports group video, and seems to work best.

Does anyone *not* have a Skype acct, and also *not* want to sign up for one?

At this point I'd suggest we try full-native Roll20, and if that craps out, we go to Discord (since I think that has everyone but Damon there already), and perhaps Skype last?

Skype might work best, but if others don't have/don't want an account, I'd rank it lowest.

Sounds good to me.  Skype did do a few weird things to my work laptop.  Updated a bunch of MS Office stuff on its own, outside of the corporate update policy and there was some odd OS behavior that didn't exist prior.  Updated BIOS/drivers took care of it, but it was still an unexpected and unwelcome hassle.

I'm pretty unfamiliar with the options, so you guys just let me know what I need to sign up for / download, etc

I'd prefer not to use Skype. The others I'm fine with though.

Anybody had any experience with Twitch? I know the Critical Roll folks use it and it's part of that chthonic creature called Amazon, but no real-time XP with it.

I have - but it would very much require some setup. Besides, it needs an underlying system like Zoom.

Sooo, Zoom? https://zoom.us/

I think some (non-techie) folks and I are going to try this today.

Oh, I didn't know that. I've used Zoom before in a professional setting, but never for gaming. That might be a good solution.

The "free" plan only lasts for 40mins. I'm going to pay for a plan that lets sessions go up to 24hrs at a time.

Gonna use it for other groups of friends, too.

Zoom?!...

You mean that invasive software that, when uninstalled, leaves behind a persistent web server which triggers its own reinstallation? And until recently could easily be tricked into installing whatever an attacker wanted) — a vulnerability that went ignored long enough that the discoverer went public?

Will, with your focus on self-hosted solutions, I'm surprised you haven't looked into Jitsi Meet. All communication is entirely peer-to-peer, so there's virtually no load on the server — to the point that the developers host their own, public instance for anyone to use.
