Hey all,
Does anyone know of an actual, honest-to-goodness store where I can go
to buy myself a 2N2222 or some resistors for less then radioshack's
godawful prices? A place where if I have a question, and I ask the guy
working, he doesn't respond with "What's a transistor?" If I am really
lucky, this store of my dreams also carries some ICs, MAYBE even an
AVR or PIC. Does anyone know where to find it? Close by is good,
because if I have to drive 45 min away, I'll probably be more likely
to digi-key it, but who knows.
Thanks, and VERY HOPEFULLY,
Sam Pratt

Nope - probably better off just asking someone in the group or buying online...

But, if you do find such a place, do share!!

That's unfortunate. I love wandering through a store trying to find
just the right part or just wandering around until I see something
that sets another idea going. If there were a real electronics store
nearby, that would be a game-changer for me. Here's top hoping that
someone can pull through with a store in the area (any and all
entrepreneurs, here is your call.)

There is a place called Electronics Surplus in Mentor...if you want to wander...I've been to the old location, not the new one.

And, HGR is also a good place to wander...for larger stuff like motors...

i live near Akron

a few geeks down here are trying to start an arduino group

we're trying to find a nice place to host regular meetings

so i called every radio-shack / sudo-electronics store i could find in the area

"I have a strange question" .. "have you heard of the arduino?"

to which i got:

"what", "who", or -- my favorite -- "we're not a nursery"

i've been thinking about a modern, open-source, 'real', electronics
store ever since

problem is -- i'm poor

TIm,
You might want to call the coworking office space in akron (officespacecoworking.com). I know they at least used to host meetings for a wordpress group. Arduino can't be to much geeky'er, right?

If you get something organized let me know because I would be interested in going.

Haha yeah, I agree. I wonder. If we got everyone in the hackerspace
group to throw in a bit of money, we could do a HUGE digikey order,
and then just have a lot of parts on hand at the space. We could use
part of the space as that store. Maybe I am out of my mind, though.

Thank you, Rick. That place is amazing. I got down there today. I'll
be damned if I ever buy anything except huge numbers of passives from
digikey ever again. I felt like I had died and gone to heaven as soon
as I walked in.
